SupportSharpCap is free software (free as in speech *and* beer). I write it in my spare time and I can't always respond straight away to requests for features or support. The best place to contact me or otherwise get help is via this StargazersLounge thread.
You can also get help and advice from the friendly bunch over at Astronomy Shed - there's a whole SharpCap Forum there.
SharpCap is provided with no warranty at all - if it breaks, all you get is to keep both halves. However, you do get the source code, so feel free to fix bugs yourself!
TroubleshootingIf you have problems with SharpCap, the first thing to do is to make sure you have updated to the latest version - maybe that's all you need to do...
If you are still having problems, try the following steps :
- If you have any other Video related software installed (particularly camera software packs or drivers), update them to the latest available version or try uninstalling them. Some crashes have been caused by buggy Codecs installed by video camera driver packs.
- If SharpCap crashes and shows a big, grey, 'Error!' message, copy all the text from the main block of the Error dialog and send it to me - either via PM on StargazersLoung, or on the thread linked to above. Often this info is enough for me to understand and fix the problem.
- If SharpCap crashes and simply dissapears or shows a 'SharpCap has Stopped Working' message, look on your desktop. There should be a new file called 'SharpCap.dmp'. This is a crash dump file which should help me to debug the problem. You need to get this file to me - upload it somewhere and send me a link, post it on the SGL thread if it's small or PM me and I will let you have my email address. (Note: 1.0.13 and later only)
- If SharpCap crashes on startup, try starting up with the CTRL key pressed down - this stops SharpCap from connecting to the default camera at startup. Sometimes one camera will cause a crash but another will work fine.
- If some camera controls don't do anything to the picture then that's probably normal. SharpCap shows the controls that the driver claims the camera implements. Sometimes the drivers lie.
- If the problem isn't a crash, just that something doesn't work right, let me know, giving as much detail as you can about what happens and why you'd expect it to do something different.
Please always include details of the camera you're using and the operating system when reporting a bug.
