The RUMBA (Rutgers University Mind Brain Analysis) research group
seeks to provide a center of excellence at Rutgers University that promotes new ways of modeling and interpreting brain function through computational and algorithmic techniques with thegoal of furthering fundamental understanding of brain mapping and its implications for brain function. The mission for RUMBA projects is to explore the measurement and modeling of brain imaging data against the backdrop of high-level cognitive processes such as language, categorization, and reasoning. We propose to develop general methods, models, and inferential procedures for analyzing the relation between mental representations and more general (statistically weaker) kinds of hypotheses that range from linear modular types of hypotheses to those that might arise from spatially distributed networks of interacting representations in the brain.
