History
Swimming has always been popular in Rugby and some may remember the Regent Street baths, the open‑air pool at Avon Mill, and of course the 'Tosh' at Rugby School.  Organised swimming started in 1913 with a club called Rugby Ladies.  This was followed by the BTH Swimming club and then ‑ in the 1930's ‑ by Rugby Seals. There was also the Rugby Life‑Saving club.  Just before Regent Street baths closed in the early 1970's, the Seals and Ladies combined to form the Rugby Swimming Club.

We are affiliated to the West Midland Region of the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA West Midland), the Warwickshire ASA and are members of the Coventry & District Association of Swimming Clubs. We are also part of Coventry Solihull & Warwickshire Sport. Our competition teams are the sole representatives of the town of Rugby in the swimming world.

What do we do?
We foster the sport of swimming in several different branches. We teach swimming techniques to children from improver up to an advanced level. The teaching section feeds strong competitive sides. We have both Masters (adult) swimmers and also a strong and successful synchronised swimming section.

Where do we do it?
The club hires the use of pools at the Ken Marriott Leisure Centre, Bilton Grange School and Rugby School Sports Centre. We also hire dry‑land facilities for fitness training and strength work.

Who runs it all?
The club is run by a Management committee of volunteers consisting of Officers, representatives from the different sections, and ordinary elected members. The Management committee is elected annually by members at the AGM and is responsible to the members. In addition, the Management committee appoints ex‑officio members who are there because of the work they do to help run the club. They advise the committee on matters relating to their particular specialist areas. They do not have a vote unless they are also elected members of the Management committee.

To help the Management committee, there are sub committees. A sub committee is a permanent body which handles a particular area of the club's activities and advises the Management committee.  Sometimes, a sub committee has powers devolved to it so that it can make decisions by itself.  Examples of sub committees are; Resources (finance), Swim 21, Open Meets, Fund raising/Social, Masters etc. The Management committee decides policy and keeps an eye on everyone and everything.

There is also a whole army of volunteers who are needed to carry out scores of different jobs, each one making a vital contribution to the whole club. These worthy folk are people like you! Parents (and many parents of former swimmers) who are interested enough to do their bit ‑ no matter how small or infrequent ‑ to help the club run effectively.  Please let us know if you would be willing to give up a little (or a lot) of your time to contribute to the smooth running of Rugby Swimming Club.
