Jacob Sheep
Jacob Sheep are are considered a rare breed by the American Livestock Breed Conservancy. They are an old world breed that dates back several thousand years. They were named after Jacob in the bible who was granted all the spotted sheep born to Laban's flock. Jacob sheep are the only breed that remain spotted for life, and are polycerate (multi-horned) in both rams and ewes. Jacob fleece is medium grade (24-32 microns, Bradford count 44-56) with an open character and soft handle. Ruby Peak raises Jacob Sheep because we like to contribute to the preservation of a unique breed and because Jacob sheep are hardy and disease resistant. We appreciate that Jacob sheep are small, thrifty, and lamb easily, twinning often. They produce a colorful fleece popular with hand spinners, and produce a flavorful lean carcass on grass alone. Not to mention their lambs are the cutest ever! Grass Fed Lamb Ruby Peak Farms is located in beautiful Wallowa County of Northeastern Oregon. Our Jacob sheep are raised on the rich grass pastures of the Lostine Valley, and fed hay cut from those same pastures in the winter time. We manage the pastures with rotational grazing and do not broadcast herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Our sheep are not fed any hormones, grains, or chemicals and are raised from birth on the grass pasture of our farm. Jacob sheep produce a naturally lean meat with exceptional flavor. Lambs are harvested at about 7-8 months of age in a humane manner right here on the farm, and produce about 60- 80 pounds of meat per lamb. Lambs are harvested in late September ,or October. A $50 deposit will reserve a lamb. Live lambs are $150,and processing fees run about $100 per lamb. You may pick up your aged, cut and wrapped lamb at Wallowa Valley Meats in Wallowa OR. Please contact Kate at 541-561-1005 , or rubypeakfarms@gmail.com to reserve your lamb.
