Welcome to the Renton (WA) Technical College (RTC) RATs website!

Many students struggle with reading - either they don't comprehend what they've read, can't recall the information read, or avoid reading it altogether. WestEd's Reading Apprenticeship® (RA) is a research-based framework for content area literacy instruction. RA is used to empower students to become skilled readers and improve their reading comprehension skills.

Renton Technical College (RTC) first began using RA in July 2008. The group at RTC using RA is affectionally known as RATs (Reading Apprenticeship Teachers and supporters) and the planning group is known as the RAT Pack. This website contains info about the use of RA at RTC including:

  • Calendar: A listing of upcoming RATs events at RTC
  • Contact RAT Pack: Meet and contact the RAT Pack, the planning coordinators of RA at RTC
  • Glossary: Abbreviations and terms used on this website
  • RA and RATs LibGuide created by the RTC Library with info about library materials and links to helpful websites about RA
