Treatment and Results

How is a RPG® treatment?

A RPG® session comprises of a series of specific stretching positions, which evolves gradually from an

initial position with minimum tension, and then applying progressive stretching until a final tension is reached through the end position. This final position will depend on each person’s condition, and which motor coordination chain is affected.

These progressive stretching positions are performed by the patient in an active way, guided and corrected by the therapist at all times. There are many different evolutive postures, which are selected in accordance with a specific assessment based on specific tests, and clinical reasoning. Normally, it is selected a minimum of two postures per session. Some of these postures are performed with the patient lying in supine, sitting on the couch, or standing up. The only tools used for the RPG® treatment are the therapist’s hands. No machine is used, only a special treatment table and light equipment is required.

All manual therapy moves used in a RPG® session are always
non-invasive and gentle, promoting the patient's comfort at all time for muscular tension release, articular decompression, and breathing re-education. At no time abrupt or unexpected moves are used. The therapist keeps communicating with the patient constantly during the wholen session. The patient’s feedback is necessary at all times to drive the therapist's decision on the intensity and pace of treatment, because pain control is the main objective of each session.

The treatment is delivered individually, with an approximate duration of one hour, usually once a week (twice a week for acute problems).  Frequently, positive outcomes are observed from the very beginning of the treatment. The treatment will be programmed in relation to each patient needs and the outcomes achieved. The main outcomes expected in RPG® are: pain and symptoms relief in a long-term, correction of compensations, and correction of postural ailments.
