The Queen Mother Memorial Poetry Competition was set up by Kumbi Johnson Writer and a Poet, after she met the Queen Mother at Clarence House.

Kumbi  found the Queen Mother really nice and refreshing and down to earth and Kumbi was very impressed  by the Queen Mother that she immediately knew that she wanted to set up something to honour the Queen Mother. It was not  until after she died that Kumbi immediately thought a poetry competition would be fitting.
