Blueberry & Blackberry U-PickLetter to our CustomersAugust 28, 2011
To our Valued Customers,
After two years of soul searching, Donna & I have concluded that we are ready to simplify our lives by not trying to run our entire operation. Since there is no apparent successor to oversee the day to day operations of the Apple House, it will be closed effective August 29, 2011. Due to the excessive rain this spring, the quality and size of our apple crop is very poor. Knowing that our crop is mainly suitable for apple cider, we would have to essentially buy an entire season’s worth of first grade apples to have something to sell in our market. These conditions weighed heavily in our decision to close the Apple House this particular year. We have not experienced such a poor crop since 1995 when we had a devastating hail storm.
We WILL continue to run our U-pick blueberry & blackberry operation in the summer for the foreseeable future.
This decision was not an easy one to make. My Dad began selling apples shortly after he & Mom were married in 1939. Donna & I took over the business in 1978. We know that a trip to Rouster’s Apple House for our apples and fresh cider has become a tradition for many families. Donna and I want to thank all of our loyal employees, customers, friends, and family who have supported our family business for 72 years. We value the many friendships we have made and we hope that you will continue to visit us each summer in the berry fields.
