Fans of “Dancing with the Stars” and “So You Think You Can Dance” will have an opportunity to test their own skills beginning Thursday, September 24, 2009 at The Rotunda at the Rhode Island Convention Center, from 6:00-11:00 pm.  The Rotunda, an elegant room with views of downtown Providence, will be transformed into a hot, swinging, salsa dance space, when El Grupo Chevere Salsa Band take to the stage and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and to benefit the Providence Latin American Film Festival (PLAFF).

Special Benefit tickets for PLAFF are available and include Rotunda Club admission, access to the PLAFF Lounge, complimentary parking and 2 tickets to their opening night film presentation at the RISD Auditorium on Wednesday, September 30.  Benefit tickets can be purchased via  www.plaff.org (purple banner ad on the right).

General admission for dancing and the 6:30 p.m. dance class is $12. A limited number of tickets for $20 will be available for purchase and will include reserved seating & complimentary parking.  Tickets can be purchased online at  http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/80956 or at the door.

Cocktails and delicious Hispanic-influenced refreshments will be available and a special parking rate of $4.00 at the RI Convention Center garage will be offered to ticket holders.   Parking at nearby Providence Place is $1.00 for the first 3 hours.

To help get you in shape for the evening, Master Zumba teacher, Deborah Saparoff will conduct a class at noon and a Zumba performance at 7:30 p.m. No fear if you don’t know the moves.  At 6:30, sensational dance guru, Sydonee Harris will conduct a Salsa class.  Harris, who owns Sydonee’s Dance School in East Providence, and teaches regularly at Xxodus Café and Monet will offer an hour of instruction.  By 7:30, you’ll be ready to take to the floor and show off what you’ve learned.

This is first in a series of dance nights, produced by The Rotunda Club, an event company based in Providence.  A live orchestra and/or great DJ will set the stage, and each evening will be held at locations throughout Providence.  The styles of each dance will cross continents, and will be based on special themes.  In fact, costumes are encouraged.

Future dance nights include: a Bollywood extravaganza, inspired by Slumdog Millionnaire and the music videos from India; a Victor/Victoria birthday celebration for Julie Andrews, featuring the ladies from Downcity’s famed Drag Brunch; ThrillerEmbrace Your Inner Zombie with a Halloween homage to Michael Jackson; Jump, Jive ‘n Wail: a tribute to Tommy Dorsey's Orchestra, the Andrew’s Sisters and Veteran’s Day.  The year will culminate in a New Year’s Eve Bash. The Rotunda Club will kick off 2010 with a Rat Pack Casino Night featuring the music of Louis Prima and legends of The Strip.

The Rotunda Club is a venture of Kim Polson, Ruth Davis and Paul Borrelli, three professional event producers based in Providence, RI.
