Robano

Rotary Bangalore North, the second oldest club in Bangalore City, was sponsored by Rotary Club of Bangalore. The club was officially inducted into the fold of Rotary on 9th May 1966 and the formal presentation of the Charter was made on 23rd June 1966.



Rotary International 



What  would it take to change the world ?  Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide.

CLUB SERVICE

i) The club has an active and vibrant membership, with a high degree of fellowship.

ii) The club has actively participated in District events and has over the years hosted many ICGF’s and other district events.

iii) Fireside meetings and picnics are organized every year to increase the fellowship among members and their families.

iv) Rotary Information talks at our weekly meetings are a regular feature.

v) The club bulletin, ‘DEEPA’, has been appearing regularly, every week, in a printed format, for over 44 years and no issue has ever been missed.  The bulletin has been much appreciated not only by our own members but also by other clubs, R.I. officers and Rtns. from other districts.

vi) The activities of the club are supported by a strong and active Inner Wheel Club.

 

COMMUNITY SERVICE

 This has been the cornerstone of our club activities.

 

 

 

 

 

ROTARY EYE HOSPITAL  

Functioning for the last twelve years, the hospital was set up as a matching grant project, along with the R.I. District 5400, California, at a cost of nearly Rs.16,00,000\-, excluding the cost of the building.  The hospital, is well equipped to conduct eye surgeries and has sophisticated operation facilities and facilities for domiciliary treatment.  The hospital has to date completed about 10000 free cataract surgeries.  Many of the eye camps have been conducted with the active participation of other Rotary clubs and voluntary organizations.  The hospital is now on the threshold of further expansion activities.

This project was inaugurated by then Chairman of R.I. Foundation, Past R.I President Rtn. Cliff Dochtermann, in the presence of Past R.I President Rtn. Raja Saboo and PDG. Mary Fleming of R.I District 5400.

 The hospital has its own ambulance for its activities.

The attached hall is being used as the venue for our weekly meetings.  In addition, four other Rotary Clubs, meet here regularly.  Slowly, this premises, is taking shape as a monument to Rotary activities, in this part of Bangalore City.

 

CLEFT&PALATE CORRECTION SURGERY PROJECT

 During the year 2006-07, the club embarked on a massive project involving cleft lip and palate corrective surgeries.  This was a joint project involving the M.S.Ramiah Hospital and Rotaplast, an N.G.O. from USA.  Rotaplast an organisation, involving Rtns. had sent a team of 28 medical and other support staff, with M.S.Ramaiah Hospital providing the medical facilities including operation theatres, ward space and nursing facilities with the club coordinating the project and providing logistic support. About 75 surgeries were done.

Follow up surgeries are being done at M.S.Ramiah and Mahaveer Jain hospitals. 


Since then , with the Divine Blessings and help of Sri Sri Sri Bala Gangadhara Swamiji, our club has tied up with the Adi Chunchanagiri Hospital founded by the Swamiji at Belur Cross,and three more camps have been held in the subsequent years. The fifth camp is scheduled for the end of August 2010.  Till date over 500 children have been benefited.  The commercial value of the procedures have exceeded Rs. Six Crores.

 

 Other community projects 

 

i)  As part of the hospital activities, regular eye screening camps are being conducted.

A pioneering project jointly with the District Rotaract has been taken up for screening of children at Corporation schools.  In this project, Rotaractors are trained to do the initial eye screening and further screening is done by the Doctors oaf our hospital.  In this on going project, all corporation schools are intended to be covered.  An effort is made to provide spectacles to all children who require them.

 ii) Blood donation camps are also being conducted regularly.

iii) Scholarships are being given every year.  For this purpose, the club has established a corpus, which is currently over Rs. 2,00,000/-.

 

 iv) Medical and dental camps are conducted regularly, in slums and in schools.

 

v) The club has actively participated in Pulse Polio, right from the inception of the project as Polio Plus.

 

 

 

RURAL PROJECTS :

 

RVC: Kamasettihalli

The club has the distinction, of starting the first RVC, in our District at Kamasettihalli, in Chikballapur Taluk.  The establishment of this RVC and the activities of the club in association with the RVC have changed the face of the village and its surrounding villages.  The club has been instrumental in providing a metalled road to the village, 1.2 Kms long.  This has been a matching grant project with Rotary clubs in England.

The club has provided drinking water supply scheme to the village.  In addition, we have participated and contributed to various projects in the village, like taluk level sports meet, scholarships, provision of school uniforms, arranging for loans for economically weaker sections for purchase of cattle etc.  Extensive tree planting has been taken up in the village and surrounding areas.

 

RVC: Hurulichikkanahalli

Another first in the district – an all women RVC was established at Hurulichikkanahalli, on the Hesarghatta Road.  The focus of this RVC has been the empowerment of women.  One of the most important projects here is the tailoring class, where rural women have been trained in tailoring.  Many of them have completed exams for certificate issued by the Government of Karnataka and are in gainful employment in garment units.

Medical facilities have been provided to the village.  A reading room and recreation center has also been set up in the village, at premises provided by Dr. Leela, a retired agricultural scientist.

 

A drinking water Project, enhancement of what was provided earlier, is currently underway for the group of villages.

 

 

Muddalodu

The club was instrumental in setting up a hospital, at this remote village, which again is a matching grant project.

Ardeshahalli

One of the earliest rural projects undertaken by the club, was in this village off the Bellary road, nearly three decades back, when a fishery project, was inaugurated in the village tank.

Arjunbetahalli

Also on the Bellary Road, a water supply scheme was provided for the village.

Pavagada

A drinking water scheme has been provided in the town.  This has been a joint project with the Rotary Club of Pavagada.

Computer Centre

As part of our silver jubilee celebrations, the club started a computer center at Vanitha Seva Mandir, a school in our locality.  A special school for mentally challenged children, ‘Asha Deep’ was also financed by the club.  This project was inaugurated by the then R.I. President, Rtn.Raja Saboo and his Anne.

 

 

VOCATIONAL SERVICE

 

i) On annual basis the Club has been conducting surveys and recognizing Best Employers and Employees.

 ii) Employees from various public utilities, like the postal department, Police, the teaching profession and nursing profession are regularly identified and recognized.  Also traders, who act as examples of the four way test are identified and recognized, regularly at the club.

 

 iii) Classification exhibitions, are organized at the club.

 iv) Career guidance programmes and talks have been arranged at various schools every year and these have been much appreciated.

 v) Essay and elocution contests, on the Four Way test are being conducted regularly and the club has been trying to popularize the Four Way test, by way of distribution of stickers etc.

 

 

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE

 i) As mentioned earlier, in connection with Community service, the club has been associated with many matching grant projects, over the years.  The latest, is the provision of an ambulance, for a church group, for their medical relief activities.

 ii) The club has been a regular contributor to The Rotary Foundation, with many of our members and Annes being Paul Harris Fellows.

 iii) The Club has been actively participating in the GSE programme by hosting GSE team members, every year. PP Dr Upendra of our Club was the GSE leader for the outgoing team to Arizona, USA during April, May 2010.

  ii) A permanent exhibit of club banners, received by us, is on display at our meeting venue.

 

New Generation : YOUTH SERVICE

i) Our club has currently sponsored TEN interact clubs and all the clubs are very active. The Interact club of Poorna Pragna high School, with nearly 300 members, is probably the largest club in the district.  The club has also  sponsored eight Kinderact Clubs and one Rotaract club.

ii) The club regularly conducts RYLA camps.  During the Rotary year 2003-04, a national level RYLA was conducted over five days, which generated much enthusiasm.  Over 300 children from all over the country participated in the RYLA.
