Meet the Hikers: Ernest Cele
Community Service Director, Rotaract Club of Johannesburg
|
I am a 26 year old student at the University of the Witwatersrand and currently doing final year LLB studies. I was born in Durban in Umlazi Township, however I grew up in Johannesburg. I have been fortunate enough to get a chance to study at Wits University where I have met different people with different backgrounds. My little successes were championed by other people who sacrificed a lot for me.
I became aware of the AIDS problem in South Africa during my stay at an informal settlement where I lived for 10 years. While I was at Wits, I heard of the Rotaract Club of Johannesburg AIDS Hike project and I became very excited. This project gives me a chance to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS in South Africa and especially in the informal settlement where people still do not believe that HIV/AIDS exists. |
