What
is MIPS?
MIPS stands for Model
Indian Parliament Session, which simulates the workings of the
Indian parliament. The main aim is to develop in students an
awareness of the parliament and the situation of other states in the
country and
to enable students
to improve their public speaking and debating skills.
to encourage them to
make sympathetic and informed comments on national problems.
to share their
opinions and friendship with students from other colleges and
to lay the
foundation for the free sharing of ideas across state boundaries
which is the essence of a truly open society tolerant to differences
of race, religion, and political opinion.

How MIPS is conducted?
MIPS simulates the
workings of the Indian parliament by having three teams representing
three political parties that debate on matters of Indian political
and social concern. The Session is about building bridges of goodwill
for peace and understanding through a personal involvement in the
acceptance of situations that reflect the opinion of political
parties. Students are challenged by the opportunities to extend
research, debating and public speaking skills by addressing a wide
range of contemporary, national issues. Students are encouraged to
wear regional dress and debate topical issues.
The Session is held on
weekend, preferably Sunday. It is inaugurated by a well known public
figure. It is chaired and judged by Rotarians with prizes being
awarded for the best overall representation, the best contribution to
a solution and the best regional costume and many more.

MIPS-Youth
Development
Rotary International
President John Kenny’s theme for the year 2009-10 says, “The
future of Rotary is in your hands”. How can we really interpret and
work on this theme? We should re-assure that, in our community, in
our personal and professional lives, we lead by example, so that the
community at large can look up at the Rotarians, in every respect,
and that can create possibilities of other good citizens feeling like
to join this ideology. This will help Rotary to grow and will lead
towards better future.
We need to work with an
impportant segment of our society that is our Gen-next, our youth.
The thought, the approach is clear and precise. The youth is the
future of our entire community, the entire world leadership of
tomorrow and of course including a movement like Rotary as well.
If we want our youth to
be inspired by Rotary, if we wish our youth to develop an inclination
to join Rotary at any stage, may like Rotaractors or Interactors
today or as Rotarians tomorrow, then we need to
Develop their
leadership qualities
Imbibe values and
knowledge
Offer them the best
training ….. today
No doubt, any youth who
benefits from our Youth Development Programs today, can be one of our
best sources for new membership for Rotary. This “Yuva Shakti”
brings in the strength, the enthusiasm and the energy.
