My name is Joe Fillingham. I have worked as a professional sailing instructor at the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center for the last 7 years. During this time I have finished high school, completed a Bachelor's degree at UW Madison in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science, and have started a Master's degree at UW Milwaukee in Atmospheric Science and Physical Limnology. Currently I work as a graduate research assistant at the Great Lakes Water Institute. I hold a US Sailing Level One small boat teaching certification, and an ISAF Level 2 rating. In the coming season I will be the crew manager for Snow Goose Racing, a one boat campaign on a Tripp 37 out of South Shore Yacht Club, Milwaukee, WI. In my spare time I will race with the soling fleet out of the Milwaukee Yacht Club, and plan to compete in the local 470 series. I aspire to compete at the international level in one design fleets, long distance ocean racing, and in the Great Lakes short handed series. Although professional sailing has always been a dream of mine and is not out of the question, I am currently pursuing a career in my field of research.
