Rose-Hulman

Middle of Spring

posted Apr 14, 2010 10:40 PM by Jeff Dovalovsky

First prayer request this time: God is Awesome. We could all do with remembering that and praising him for it more often.

Over spring break last week, a group of 10 students from our chapter were able to go on a missions trip to St. Louis. They did various things to help out people living there, including spending a lot of time with widows. In addition to praise for that trip, pray that it would have a lasting impact on everyone who went and those they worked with.

Please continue to pray for the Rose-Hulman chapter's leadership next year. Leadership applications have been collected and interviews will be conducted next week as the leadership team works to select new leaders. Pray for wisdom for the leadership team and for God's will to be done, and also that God would give those who will be leaders in the chapter next year energy and passion and assistance in fulfilling their responsibilities.

I believe all our chapters could also use prayer for the members (and especially the seniors) to finish strong and continue to reach out to others, instead of looking forward to the end of the year and loosing motivation. Be praying as well for the freshmen and transfer students who will be starting in the fall; that there would be many ministry leaders among them, that the Christians among them would continue to grow in their faith, and that the non-Christians would be open to learning more about God.

Last Weeks of Winter

posted Feb 10, 2010 7:07 PM by Jeff Dovalovsky

As Rose-Hulman's winter quarter comes to a close, I'd like to share some more of the things God has done on our campus, and ask for prayer that He continue to move.

To start, a praise that over 20 Rose students were able to attend the Urbana missions conference over winter break, including two freshmen. At Urbana, it was amazing to see many of the things that God is doing across the world, but it was also encouraging to see the work God has done in our chapter since 2006, when only a handful of students attended.

As our chapter's leadership selection process begins this week, we have already begun praying that students would prayerfully consider what God is calling them to do next year and for God to give guidance to everyone involved in the procs. All six members of our current leadership team are stepping down or graduating at the end of the year, so we will need students to step up and fill those positions.

While our chapter has historically focused on organizing and holding events, we are often lacking in our ability and willingness to personally reach out to our friends. Please pray that we would spend time building deep relationships and sharing our faith with our non-christian friends, and that our chapter would be faithful in praying for them; and join us in praising God for the many GIGs (bible studies with non-christians) that we have already had this year and asking that he continue to provide opportunities.

In our outreach and leadership, it has been exciting to see the ways God has been meeting our needs. In our daily prayer meetings last spring, we prayed for God to send more workers, and God answered these prayers not only by bringing more strong Christian freshmen to our campus, but also by keeping more of our upperclassmen involved, and even providing a few transfer students.

Our chapter is organizing a spring break missions trip to St. Louis, and would like prayer that people commit to it and the organization works out.

We're also praying for that God would continue to work in the lives of all who attended Greek conference.

November Update

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Hey! I hope all is well at ISU and Depauw! God is certainly working here at Rose-Hulman. There is so much we could share, however I am sure many of you have only heard bits and pieces about our Chapter, so I thought it might be appropriate to give you a brief background on Intervarsity here at Rose-Hulman.

Today our chapter is comprised of over 100 active members. Our Large Groups, held Thursdays at 7 P.M., attract roughly 50 to 60 students. We also have multiple residential Small Groups here on campus, one for each residence hall. Our presence in the Greek system is an area we are still building. At the moment there are two or three Small Groups scattered throughout our fraternities and sororities, however there is potential for so many more! Driving all of this is our Leadership Team. This year we have a total of six members on our team filling the following roles: Overseer, Ministry Coordinator, Discipleship Coordinator, Outreach Coordinator, Large Group Coordinator and Greek Coordinator. While most of these roles are self explanatory, Discipleship Coordinator is a new role, through which we hope to set the stage for seniors to mentor and disciple underclassmen.

At this point I am sure you are all wondering how our year has started! For the first month and a half all our energies were focused on New Student Outreach (NSO), which officially wrapped up with Fall Conference. Overall this was a major success! An extremely important aspect of NSO was the follow-up that had to occur, which I am pleased to say our chapter excelled at! Also, as a chapter we've spent time discussing what our vision is for the year. Spurring from Intervarsity's vision statement, we've agreed to devote ourselves to "Students and Faculty Transformed, Campuses Renewed, World Changers Developed".

We've also begun to gear up for Urbana. Currently we have 17 students registered and hope to gather over 30 students for this life-changing conference. As one of our final activities for NSO, we washed cars at our local community church to raise funds for our students who can't make it to Urbana due to financial concerns. God was at work that day; we raised over 700 dollars! The work is not over however, so please pray for our continued efforts in this area. There is so much potential for God to work through this conference and we want each of our students to be a part of this experience!

Looking into the future, there are several things that we could use prayer for. As this quarter begins to wrap up, I have noticed the energy level in our chapter slowly dwindle, especially for the Leadership Team. Please pray for perseverance and the ability for all of us to finish this quarter strong, never loosing the passion we hold for Christ! We also have a 24-hour prayer event coming up; pray that God could use this as an opportunity to speak to us on an individual and corporate level. Finally, we'd appreciate prayer for our Greek Ministry! As I mentioned above, this is a ministry that we've begun to tap into, yet there is so much more work to be done! We've already started to build relations with many of the fraternities, but there are many that we still do not have a relationship with.

For now I think this should fill you in on the latest "happenings" at Rose. As always, we sincerely appreciate your support! We'll be praying for you!

God Bless,
Peter Wenzel
