1. Respond to Discussion Board about Lois Lowry. Due by Wednesday. Note: Lois Lowry Inspiration or notes from last week's classtime research will need to be at school tomorrow.
2. Complete the handout (Topic/Idea/Details) for #3 three-week reflection. Due Tuesday.
3. Math Rotation homework?
Have you turned in missing work signature and/or Planner signature? They are overdue.
I will provide a work time in the first 40 minutes of school tomorrow to finish homework or finish the nonfiction (Hershey) questions. The laptops will not be available for that time, so plan accordingly.

Parents, online book
ordering information is below. It's also posted on Announcements on the Passport
page and, more permanenently in the SWIFT links, for future reference. I
apologize for the delay.
Fundraiser envelopes were due today
but can be turned in next Monday.
I have decided not to send home
Graded Paper Envelopes until after conferences, but I will be sending out
progress reports early next week. The students will need to be selecting some
"conference portfolio" pieces from their stash of papers and we'll need them all
here. I mention this because I did state at Curriculum Night that they would be
coming home every 3-4 weeks.
Conference appointments will be sent
home next Monday. I will do my best to meet your first or second choice of
time.
Mrs. Graham has asked me to remind students they have a “recital” in C104 next
Wednesday.
Although I will be at school, it is
a nonstudent day. I tell the kids that the only difference between their day and
my day on nonstudent days is that their work is at home! I do give homework on
Thursday for 3-day weekends of this nature, but, as always, if you have family
time scheduled so that putting in time for homework on Friday (or weekend time)
is difficult, send a note.
Book orders
(optional, of course!) can be placed at Scholastic Book Club online! I do not
collect the orders nor the money.
Here's how it works:
1. Use the
information below to access the Scholastic Book Clubs Web site. 2. Browse the
titles with your child, and place your order with your credit card. 3. Your
order will come to me, and your credit card payment will go directly to
Scholastic's secure server. There's no need to send money to school. 4. After
I submit the entire class's order to Scholastic, your order will be delivered to
our classroom for your child to take home.

Dear
Parents,
I am sending home conference forms
today but also sending it as an attachment in case it doesn’t get there!
Although I toyed with having you respond your choices digitally, I think I still
need to hold on to pieces of paper for this task so am asking that you return
the paper with your student by next Wednesday. Shortly after, we will work as a
staff to coordinate sibling appointments, then schedule according to your
choices. I will advise you of the appointment time early the week of Oct. 13.
Please remember that students need to be at the conference,
also.
I am also sending (finally!) a set
of book order forms. I will post the directions for digital ordering on the
Passport Page under Announcements and on the classroom web page as a back-up.
Please order online by Oct. 13.
Hopefully, 5th graders
brought home the information about Math Teams. I hope we can get as many of our
5th graders as possible! We may also be looking for Math Team
Coaches…
And, as a reminder, next Friday is a
nonstudent day for professional development.
Have a nice weekend and pray for the
Cubs. It looks very dismal for us, but I’m trying to keep my chin up! I’ve had a
LOT of practice.
Regards,
Diane
