Welcome to the State of Monuments Project website! 

The project is underway...  and we've made some solid progress...  but could definitely use some more help!  We will be surveying on-site on the 3rd Sunday and final Wednesday of each month...  and we could also use alot of help with biographical research.....  Please click on the links on the left of the page for more information...  and contact the project or the Friends of Rookwood if you might be interested in helping out!


Progress so far:      (as of May 1st, 2012) 
150 of ~375 vault and grand monument gravesites surveyed...
27 sets of photographs completed
map digitisation initiated
historic plantings and trees added to the project
burial and location data donated by the Anglican & General Trusts
most of the grand monuments in the Jewish Old Ground now surveyed
lunchtime tours and workshops added for some survey days

ONLINE PHOTOS

The first sets of photographic documentation are now online.  Served through Picasa web albums, you can see them at the cemeteryconservation photo stream, listed by their location....  The entire project, including the photos, will eventually be freely served online through a Geographic Information System...  we're committed to documenting these wonderful monuments...  and sharing a record of this historic landscape.
