Speaking

Communication Style

  • I let God erase guilt by motivating people with his promises rather than demands.
  • I seek to convey profound biblical insights in a clear and entertaining manner.
  • I use stories and audio-visuals whenever possible.
  • I advise believers to work in teams where each plays only a one-person-sized role.
  • I'm flexible, able to adapt topics for a short message or a day long workshop.

Speaking and Teaching Experience

I have presented keynote addresses, workshops, courses, seminars, and sermons for:

  • Parachurch mission organizations
  • Men's and women's mission societies
  • Evangelism and mission conferences
  • Pastoral conferences
  • Missionary training sessions
  • Youth events
  • Evangelism workshops
  • Mission fairs
  • Bible classes
  • College and seminary curriculum

My Favorite Topics

1. OUTREACH PROMISES

Since we Christians are easily discouraged and dissuaded from evangelism and mission, wouldn't it be great if God had promised us He would bless our efforts with success? HE DID!

2. THE POWER OF Y'ALL

Are living the Christian life and sharing the faith individual sports or a team sports?

Our culture values the individual above the group. "I did it my way!" "Be your own dog." Due to this emphasis--and because English doesn't have a separate word for "you" plural-- Christians often carry heavy burdens alone.

I'll lead you to Bible texts which show God planned for us to live and act together in a spirit of teamwork and mutual support.

3. NEW CREEDS FOR TODAY'S NEEDS

Non-Christian values and beliefs are increasing in North America. Meanwhile, God is bringing the nations and their religions to our doors.

You will learn how to state your Christian convictions in response to the issues and challenges of today. The skills you gain will help you proclaim God's truth to your lost neighbors.

4. CONSIDERING A CHURCH CAREER?

What questions run through people's minds when they wonder if God might want them to be a pastor, a teacher, a missionary, or other professional church worker?

Both young persons stepping into the workplace for the first time and adults seeking a new career will find answers to their questions.

5. ROCK FOUNDATIONS

Tour the history of Rock Built on the Sand, (secular rock music) and Rock Built on the Rock, (contemporary Christian music). Rather than rejecting all rock music as evil, I affirm its better qualities and urge Christians to fulfill the let's-save-the-world idealism, which secular rock and Baby Boomers espoused in the late 1960s but has largely rejected since then.

7. EVANGELISM CAN BE FUN

Witnessing doesn't have to be as terrifying as climbing a cliff solo. Personal evangelism can be fun and relatively safe when done in small groups.

This is an introduction to what is variously described as `friendship,' `lifestyle,' and `team' evangelism. You'll learn about great resources which teach believers to build bridges to people and love them into God's kingdom.

8. ARE YOU A TIME EMBEZZLER?: STOP ROBBING YOURSELF AND YOUR LOVED ONES

"Time is money and money is time." Apply this idea in a new way. Picture all your time as being deposited in different budgetary accounts, such as, your work account, spouse/family account, self-care account, socializing account, and community activity account.

Time embezzlement is "snitching" from one account to "pay bills" to an account that we have already used up. The problem is you can't pay back time. It's spent! Keep up the snitching, and you are bound to go broke.

The solution to time embezzling is time budgeting. I'll teach you how to live within your means.

Propose a Topic I Can't Resist

When a church in Michigan asked me to speak for their combination Missions Fair/All Saints' Day celebration, the topic aroused my interest. I learned a lot, and so did my audience. For the results, check out To Populate Heaven.

Perhaps you are also seeking consulting services. I am willing to meet with your church or organization to discuss its evangelism and mission activities. I'll suggest strategies and refer you to resources. Or perhaps you and I together will discover innovative responses to the challenges you face.

Negotiations

If one of my topics appeals to you, contact me, and let's get to know one another. Tell me about the speaking event you have in mind and what you hope to see accomplished.

All related expenses (travel, lodging, meals, copying of materials, etc.) are at your organization's expense. I have no fixed speaking fees. The amount depends on two factors:

  • My need to make a living.
  • Your organization's ability to pay.

Hopefully, we can negotiate a fee agreeable to us both.
