Our motto that began in February

It's all about making memories...

Make time for the small things that are meaningful, let go of the "big" things that are not.

We joked back in February when Brad got his diagnosis and we started to think about all the things we needed to accomplish:

"ALS is the cure for procrastination, now we just need a cure for ALS".

We are determined to approach his diagnosis of ALS, as Nana would say, as “an adventure”, not as a terminal illness. All life here on earth is terminal. We would like to share with friends and family our LIFE, with the twists and turns ALS brings, or, our life through the lens of ALS.

Brad Rogers is best described on the bracelet made by his sisters as: father, husband, brother, son, friend. (When asked as a teen what he wanted to be when he grew up he said: "a father and a husband" – he is exemplary at both).

His ALS diagnosis (onset: left arm) was in February, 2007, with symptoms noticed back in 2006.

The diagnosis of ALS presents our family with challenges that were inconceivable at this time last year and we are beginning to navigate our way with faith, friends and family. We are dealing with feelings of love, loss, gratefulness, friendship, grief, isolation, sometimes despair and most important – hope.

This site is to help clarify the "Fine" or "Hangin' in there" after the "How are you?", to help friends and family stay informed of the steps in our family's journey as Brad carries this "cross", and I must say, so graciously.

Since February, 2007, his symptoms have progressed slowly but seemingly constantly to the left leg, right arm and right leg. The uncertainty of the disease is frustrating, not knowing what changes will come next and how it will affect day-to-day life.

That being said, it has become a time for making memories, enjoying the moment, enjoying all the gifts God has given us - in earnest - and preparing our home for the physical changes to come.

We would like to extend a huge and heart-felt thank you to all friends and family for their many varied and exceptional talents. (Master Electrician Christina and Master Carpenter Scott are taking applications for Beer-Me Construction - no experience necessary, you don't even need to drink beer, and there could even be a T-shirt in it for you..)

Mondays have become "the day" to get things done at the house, so if you are willing and/or able, please come to help or to socialize.

Thank you to the "Monday Crew" - not just for the help with getting our house in shape but all the other things that have fallen by the wayside that you have helped us pick up and get taken care of.

Thank you to family and friends for feeding, fixing, organizing, building, listening and supporting us as our family starts this "adventure". Your kindness and selflessness is truly humbling. Thank for being "Simon" to Brad as he carries this burden....
