Roger Cull Jazz

Based in the Edinburgh area, Roger Cull Jazz play mainstream jazz music for parties, receptions, restaurants, hotels and festivals. We can provide groups of different size ranging from piano/bass or piano/guitar duos, trios, quartets or quintets, depending on requirements. Our musicians are all highly experienced and play together regularly. Our repertoire is made up of jazz standards written by the great song writers of the 20th century - Gershwin, Porter, Ellington, Rodgers, Van Heusen, Jobim and their contemporaries.

In addition to instrumental music, we also work with several singers, including : Jenne McClure, Fay Levey, Debbie Davis and June James.

History :

Roger has been playing music in public since the 1960's, and jazz piano for the last 25 years. He was the pianist with the Harry's Bar band in Edinburgh for 7 years, and therafter formed a trio with Edinburgh's guitar legend, Dougie Campbell and bassist Alastair Burnet. The trio was resident at The Menzies Belford Hotel in Edinburgh for 3 years prior to its take over. Roger and Dougie play regularly as a duo, most recently at Channings Hotel, Edinburgh. Allen and Roger have played music together since their student days in the 60's, and as a very experienced and tasteful jazz drummer Allen is always in demand in the Edinburgh area.

Regular deputies on bass and drums are Kenny Ellis and Allan Pendreigh, both seasoned players of the highest standard, and well-known on the Scottish jazz scene. During 2008, Roger was resident pianist at Browns Restaurant in Edinburgh ; his quartet played to full houses at the 2010 Callander Jazz Festival and the Balerno Music Festival, both of which have invited the band back for their 2011 events. Most recently in 2011, Roger and Jenne McClure have been performing regularly as a guitar /vocal duo in Edinburgh at the Divino Enoteca Live Music Festival.

We can arrange jazz groups of various sizes to suit client's needs and tastes. Although we are Edinburgh-based, travel to other parts of Scotland is always possible.

There are three instrumental quartet numbers :

"Just in Time", "Wave" and "Cute" together with a vocal version of " Joyspring" - featuring singer Jenne McClure and saxophonist Bruce Michie.
