JEZ - 64 PB Cresta Custom

Jez’s ride is a 1964 Vauxhall PB Cresta. No, he doesn’t aspire to a yank. This is the car he’s always wanted. Jez is more Southend than SoCal.

The car has been in South London forever. Jez bought it from well-known rodder, Keith Killick, but it was previously owned for donkeys’ years by ‘Alabama’ Andy young from Plumpstead. Andy spotted it at the Bromley Pageant in the early 1990s, sitting sky high on slot mags, and knew he had to have it. Andy cut the front springs and lowered the back on Spax shocks. He also fitted the super cool white leather bench seats, which apparently came from a magazine project Cresta. The five spokes are from a Jensen Interceptor.

Since buying the car, Jez has got shot of a bit more superfluous exterior trim. The body has also been skilfully straightened and beautifully painted by Spencer Lowis, whose body shop in Mitcham is responsible for lots of cracking work on rods and customs.

The standard engine has now been replaced by Andy Frost of Penn Autos with the 3.3 motor from a Ventora, the shell of which is being turned into Andy’s Redvictor III race car.  Fitted to the 3.3 straight six are a Weber 38 DGAS, custom inlet manifold, six-branch exhaust manifold and big bore stainless pipe.  The three-speed column Hydramatic has been swapped for a two-speed Powerglide with B&M floor shifter.

Jez’s first love was bikes. His daily is a Yamaha XS650 hardtail chopper.  Loud pipes save lives.
