To understand the principles of working with Rocket! Data management, we will create a sample database section. Let's start with "My Contacts" as this is most common type of data. 1. Start the program (you have already got yourself a copy, haven't you?) We assume that you haven't entered any data yet, so you see the program window with no data at all. Make sure that the Section area is selected (it should be marked with red border; if not, just click to select) and click "Add new" button: Let's call our first section "My contacts". Enter this phrase and click SAVE. The section is added! 2. Now, let's add an item to our section. Select Item area (top right) and click "Add new". Our first contact name will be John Smith with description "My boss". Click Save. ![]() Let's add two more items. Now we have a list, including our boss John Smith, our friend Jane Black and our tennis coach Tony White. 3. Now, let's get down to most important part of our work - that is, assigning properties to items. Select Properties area (bottom right) and press "Add new". Now we are adding the "Address" property. Note that this property will be added to all items of the current section (the checkbox is activated). Surely, the value of the property is only added to the current item. So all three items will have "Address" property, but its value is specified for Tony White only. Now, lets add 2 phone numbers - home and office. These are also added to all items, but the fourth one applies to our tennis coach only: it's "Fee per hour". So, let's add the private property to the current item (deactivate the checkbox): Click Save. Good! We have just added the private property to the item. Let's do it again! Jane is our friend, so it is important to remember her birthday. No problem - we'll just add another private property to this item. Select Jane Black in Item area, click Property area, then click "Add new": The item is "Birthday" and the value is "17 Dec". Click Save. Great! To edit any section, item or property, select it and click "Edit". Now, let's edit the address of our boss, John Smith: Click John Smith item, then Address property, then "Edit" button. Enter the data and click Save. 4. Well - that's it! Now you know everything you need to successfully operate Rocket! Try adding other sections, items and properties by yourself. Good luck, and enjoy working with our program! |
