Pangi Valley, situated 40 kms from Padder (J&K) is perhaps one of the most attractive valley of neighbouring Himachal Pradesh. Often referred to as trekker’s paradise, it is a remote tribal area, sandwiched between the Pir Panjal range and the Himalayan Zanskar range. Killar, being the main town and the headquarter of Pangi.

Pangi is famous for its natural scenic beauty with altitude ranging from 18,000 ft to 21,000 ft. The lower ranges of the valley have grassy slopes with dense forests of pine and cedar. The overall majestic mountains enhance the beauty of the valley.

Dharwas, the biggest village of the valley and is famous for natural spring of mineral water named Tilmili. Hazelnuts are grown here in abundance. 

Sural,  is a beautiful sub-valley of Pangi.

Pangi can be visited during late summers through several passes, which form a perfect base for trekking especially for veteran trekkers. Chanderbhaga gorges through the valley. The specialties include rare and endangered species of animals such as snow leopard, ermine, weasel and marmot. Sidh ka Dera, Cherry bungalow and a Devi temple are among the points of interest.

Pangwals, the residents of Pangi valley who observes unique customs and traditions, are the main inhabitants of the area. Zanskar hills lies in the northern part of the valley and the Bhot tribes are the main inhabitants here. These tribes are a mixture of Aryan and Mangolian race, and they follow Buddhism.

Sach Pass (14,478ft) & Chenni Pass (14,382ft), Pangi can be reached from different routes. These routes / passes are recommended for those approaching from Churah and Chamba side. There is a bus service on the 1167 kms long, Chamba to Killar (Pangi) road over the Sach Pass.

Another route is via Lahaul, which is opened through a road, via Triloknath, Udaipur and  jeeps ply from Tandi to Killar during summer.

During winter, the valley is locked from all the sides, and aerial route is the only way to reach here.
