From Dubai Eklektic (Compiled And Mixed By Dj Ravin And Dj Nicholas Sechaud) Roaming Images is a large-scale project by the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art Thessaloniki, Greece (MMCA) organized in the framework of the 3rd Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art and within the “Cultural Crossroads” initiative by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture & Tourism. It
consists of two parts: “Roaming Images –
Exhibition”, an exhibition of contemporary art –curated by Iara Boubnova; it is going to take
place at the MMCA between September 18 2011 – January 8 2012; and “Roaming Images – Routes”, curated by Sotirios Bahtsetzis, a series of
projects that take place in various cities/stations, along the route linking
Muscat (Oman) to Thessaloniki (Greece) planned and implemented by appointed
correspondent curators and local institutions. The results of these actions will be also shown at MMCA between September 18 2011 – January 8 2012. In Thessaloniki the project also includes satellite projects, such as the conference “Iconic-Architectonic” that took place last March and the exhibition “Photography as a Means of Creating or Subverting Stereotypes”, a students’ photography exhibition, curated by Lena Athanasopoulou, that will take place at the National Bank of Greece Cultural Foundation – Thessaloniki Centre and that is organized by the Architecture School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in collaboration with schools from the Middle East and Greece. The Idea The project calls contemporary artists to engage the cultural heritage of the Arab peninsula and the Eastern Mediterranean as places of a long-standing artistic and cultural convergence. Contemporary artists, scientists
and scholars search for and document the traces, the ‘images’ of various
cultural genealogies, highlighting them as the cross-cultural links beyond
dangerous dichotomies: geographical, political, religious or historicist. Roaming
Images is supported by the program Crossroads of the Hellenic Ministry
of Culture and Tourism and the 3rd
Thessaloniki Biennial. It’s part or the Focus Middle East project by
MMCA. |
