Attendance was very good with a full room. The minutes of the meeting will be available in due course, but here are a few highlights. The club had its best ever year financially with our year end position being significantly better than last year. The chairman thanked those whose efforts had made the club successful, but did caution this was a small band of people and members present and not present should look as to how they all can suport the club in the year ahead. The chairman also advise that he would be standing down from office after many years of committee work. (A well deserved rest.) New committee starting 1st January 2011: Chair - Bill Salmons. In oder to promote membership, which is a main focus the club debated how it could stimulate new members. Therefore the previous years discounted full membership for newcommers is being extended and improved. In their first year a new full member will only pay £20 subsciption! 14/10/2011 The AGM will be on 27th October starting at 7:30 p.m. All members are invited and encouraged to attend to review 2010/11 and plan for 2011/12. 10/05/2011 At bingo tinight the 'Snowball' game was won. The game had to be won within the first 62 balls and at 61 balls "house" was called. The card was checked and all was OK and the lucky winner walked away with £340! Bingo continues on the 24th May with the Snowball restarting with a bonus of £100 if claimed within 45 balls. Roll on the next winner. 20/04/2011 The green is open! Their unbeaten record continues with success playing Kislingbury away. 29/06/2010 The ladies won their friendly interclub match with Kingsthorpe ladies tonight. This means the Roade ladies continue on a roll with a 100% record of wins in interclub friendlies. Well done! 04/05/2010 The Beer Festival over the bank holiday weekend was a great success. Plenty of beer, tasty BBQ and much fun for all. Roll on next year. 16/03/2010 Bingo night is a big success! At the request of those attending we are running another bingo night in 2 weeks. Tuesday 30th March starting 7:30 p.m. We are also considering the possibility of regular bingo evenings. 16/02/2010 During the first half of the winter season we have had games night running every two weeks on a Wednesday. To ring the changes for the second half of the winter we are switching away from the games night to run a curling night every two weeks on a Monday starting 17:30 on Monday 22nd February. We hope members will appreciate that the change to a Monday may help some members who could not make Wednesday. 07/02/2010 A busy events calendar is under-way for the remaining of the winter months. A Quiz Night, Bingo Night and Race Night can be seen on our events page. Early work has commenced on the green and April will be with us before we know it. 03/12/2009 Roade bowls club has been successful in a bid for funding for a small marquee to provide a covered outside area at events. Roade Bowls Club made an application to the 'South Northants Homes Charity and Community Donations Fund'. The club, and local community who often attend club events, would like to thank South Northants Homes for their support. 22/11/2009 Last night saw the 53rd Annual Presentation Night at Roade Bowls Club.The room had been prepared earlier in the day, the caterer and entertainment (Tommy Cavanagh) booked. The after dinner speaker (Graham Alsop) booked, tickets sold and activities got underway at 7.00 p.m. The 3 course meal was well received, with many comments that it was the best ever. The numbers of plates completely cleared was a testament to this. Graham Alsop (our after dinner speaker), Sales Manager at Northamptonshire Cricket Club and someone involved with sport for most of his life entertained us with stories from his experiences. His reference to many big names in sport, and amusing anecdotes kept the audience laughing. His final 15 minutes of stand up, in the style of comedian Jethro, left many in tears of laughter. Graham then went on to present Roade Bowls Club 'Person of the Year' shield, an award voted on by club members. For 2009 the award went to Richard Jacobs.
