Walk for Water Photos

Carnival photos taken by Superintendent Durand

The walk on Friday was a huge success!   We enjoyed a beautiful, sunny day and had over 240 students participate in (and complete!) the 5k walk.  At this time, we have raised over $10,000 for the Water for Sudan organization.  This is enough money to build one entire well for the Sudanese people, and that is just from Rockford Middle School!  The carnival was also a huge success.  The dunk tank brought the most business - showing how excited students were to dunk their teachers!  People enjoyed the variety of games and concessions available.  The concession stand alone raised over $500.  Crowd favorites included cotton candy and root beer floats.

We would like to extend a huge thank-you to the many people who helped to make our walk possible. We were amazed at everyone's generosity!  THANK YOU!

Pre-Walk for Water Posting...
The Walk for Water at RMS  is going to be a lot of fun and we are going to have the opportunity to help people, too!  The walk is being organized by eighth grade students who learned about the plight of the people in southern Sudan in Geography and Language Arts.  Men, women, and children in southern Sudan must walk up to eight hours a day for a meager gallon or two of contaminated water!  Students learned about an organization called Water for Sudan.  This organization drill much needed wells in southern Sudan; which provide clean, safe, life-giving water.

The Walk for Water will be 5 kilometers long, and take place at the Rockford High School Track on Friday (or the Rockford Community Center, in the case of inclement weather), May 6th.  All 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students have been invited to participate in the walk.  The walk will begin at 1:00 p.m.  Each student will need to raise at least $30 to participate.  Profits will be donated to Water for Sudan.

In addition to the walk itself, eighth-graders are also organizing a carnival that will be held on the football field immediately following the walk.  Friends, families, and community members are invited to participate.  There will be games, prizes, and food to enjoy!
