Edgar James Maybery 1887 - 1964 (my grandfather) was born in Newport Monmouthshire (now Gwent) in South Wales. He studied at the South Kensington School, London. (now The Royal College of Art.) He was also a member of the Royal Cambrian Society and the Royal West of England Academy.
His works include oils, watercolours and etchings. His oils are in the main landscapes, though he did undertake still life and some portraits (mainly of family members.) Edgar Maybery's watercolours consist of landscapes, seascapes and village/urban scenes. However, he is best known for his etchings, some of which are accessible below.
His last years were spent at his son's home at 30 St John's Rd Newport. However, he died at his daughter's home in Pwllheli on the Lleyn Peninsula, North Wales. He is buried with his wife at St Woolas Cemetery in his home town, Newport.
