Here at Glenwood we use "Everyday mathmatics".  Our program has a spiral effect, which means that your child will work on something (like money) on one day and some thing else (like graphing) another day.  Then will work on it gain a month later.  This happens in all grades, so what your child is taught in kindergarten they will see it again in first grade, second and ect... Just more expanded on each time it's taught. 

In kindergarten and First grade your child will need to be able to....

•  recognize and count their numbers to 100 by 1's, 5's and 10's.  (up to 1000 in first grade).
• recognize all coins and be able to add  and exchange a variety of a collection of coins. (this seems to be a hard skill for kids this age... so please work on it at home).
• count at least up to 20 objects
• graph and interpret a graph
• make complex patterns (abcabc, abbabba)
• read a calendar (know days of the week, months of the year)
• make and solve math fact problems
