PDF: Guidelines for Oral History Interviews (The History Channel)

Oral histories serve as an excellent method of documenting the past. Although our personal memories and reflections may not always be accurate, our recollections do reveal how we perceive our past. These interviews with past staff and students were conducted by students at Unity.

UNITY STAFF/STUDENTS

STUDENT-Sharon Ellison.pdf

There were no substitute teachers. They would just ask parents to come in in case a teacher was gone, which didn’t happen very often. I remember my mom subbed.

STUDENT-Goldie Callihan.pdf

It was a different time and the rules were different... You knew that you didn’t sass the teachers or anything of that nature because you were in trouble with the teachers and your parents.

STAFF- Russ Stevens.pdf

Everybody thinks that they know what a teacher does but they really don’t. Until you’ve been a teacher, you really don’t know what’s going on in the classroom.

STUDENT- Tim Stevens.pdf

Unity is about the little guys. They will take care of their own...We all know that there are rough patches in life and we all cope with it together.

STUDENT-Todd Smith.pdf

The pros of Unity are pretty much you’ve got the very relaxed environment. Teachers are friendly, funny. Everyone gets along with each other.

STUDENT- Randy Wade.pdf

I started coming here after my two friends were killed in a car accident...There was no point in my life. Then everything changed when I came to Unity.

STUDENT-Jennifer Hamilton.pdf

Teachers and students were really connected...They were companions that we had.
