The River Hill Hawks (14 - 4, 12 -3) used a strong defensive performance on Senior Night to defeat the Hammond Bears 43 - 37. The victory moves the Hawks into a tie for first place in the county with the Bears. The Hawks used 4 quarters of tight defensive coverage and handled the Hammond defensive pressure in the second half to keep the Bears from getting into the game. The Hawks then hit enough free throw down the stretch for the 43 - 37 victory. The Hawks season continues with two away games this weekend, Friday night, Feb 19 against Centennial and Saturday Feb 20 against Reservoir. Game time on 2/19 against Centennial is 7:30 and 2/20 against Reservoir is 12:30. Feb 18, 2010 River Hill - Hammond Game Story Feb 18, 2010 River Hill - Hammond Box Score JV Hawks defeat Hammond 50 - 36 After a 21 day break, the River Hill JV Hawks hosted the Hammond Bears. Paul "PJ" Kinkead got the Hawks going with two deep 3pt FGs in the 1st quarter. Yet, after the 1st quarter the Hawks would be trailing 14-10. Once the second half began, the Hawks tightened up on defense and only allowed 4 Hammond points in the 2nd quarter. Evan Richardson and Walt Moody each had 2 FGs and PJ added another to get the Hawks into the locker room with a 22-18 lead. The second half became a very physical game with more contact then the Hawks fans wanted to see, and Hammond getting the better of the calls leaving a 8 fouls to 1 disparity. The Hawks did not let up as Raamah Vaughn had two steals that he converted into 4 points and PJ added, yet another 3pt FG. The Hawks shot 11-20 from the FT line while Hammond made 10-15 and only scored 18 second half points. With 29 second half points, the Hawks were able to improve to 12-2 defeating the Bears 50-36.
