JV Hawks defeat Hammond 50 - 36
After a 21 day
break, the River Hill JV Hawks hosted the Hammond Bears. Paul "PJ"
Kinkead got the Hawks going with two deep 3pt FGs in the 1st quarter.
Yet, after the 1st quarter the Hawks would be trailing 14-10. Once the
second half began, the Hawks tightened up on defense and only allowed 4
Hammond points in the 2nd quarter. Evan Richardson and Walt Moody each
had 2 FGs and PJ added another to get the Hawks into the locker room
with a 22-18 lead. The second half became a very physical game with
more contact then the Hawks fans wanted to see, and Hammond getting the
better of the calls leaving a 8 fouls to 1 disparity. The Hawks did not
let up as Raamah Vaughn had two steals that he converted into 4 points
and PJ added, yet another 3pt FG. The Hawks shot 11-20 from the FT line
while Hammond made 10-15 and only scored 18 second half points. With 29
second half points, the Hawks were able to improve to 12-2 defeating
the Bears 50-36. Walt Moody led all scorers with 20. |

Jan. 29, 2010 River Hill - Marriotts Ridge Box ScoreJV Hawks defeat Marriotts Ridge 35 - 31The JV Hawks
improved to 11-2 with a win over the Marriotts Ridge Mustangs Friday.
The Hawks started off in the same fashion as last game; with a 3pt FG
in their first possession, this time by Corey Ruben. Once the Mustangs
got possession it was like watching our Hawks on offense -- as the
Mustangs appeared to run the same offense set. This resulted in a slow
paced first quarter which closed with an 11-6 edge for River Hill. In
addition to two 3pt FGs by Nathan Check, PJ Kinkhead, Walt Moody and
Tim Park all had breakaway steals which helped the Hawks create some
scoring distance in the 2nd quarter where the Hawks had a 22-9 lead at
the half. Essentially trading baskets, the Hawks finished the 3rd with
a 28-18 lead. Playing with a sense of urgency, the Mustangs drew to
within two until Raamah Vaughn's missed lay-up with 6.2 remaining was
tipped in by Evan Richardson to give the Hawks a four point lead and
seal the game. Evan Richardson led all scorers with 16 points. |
