2nd. Annual LaborDay Shootout.

"I want to thank everyone who came out and supported our 2nd Annual Labor Day Shootout.  I hope all of you had lots of fun, because I know I did and can't wait to do it again!  We had a great turn out and everything went pretty smooth and thank all of you for your cooperation and following the rules.  You guys made it the race that it was, John and I are already planning bigger and better things for future races to come at RiverFront RC so check in often to see what's next!!" Phillip Atondo.

Labor Day weekend saw the 2nd annual Labor Day Shootout return to Riverfront R/C in Marysville, CA. Located in the Riverfront MX Park. The 1st year had such a great turnout with racing lasting well past midnight so they decided to make it a 2 day event this time around.  Racers from as far away as Los Angeles and Oregon made their way to the Riverfront track for this years event.  Some of the notable attendees included Team Associated's Ryan Cavalieri, Team Losi's Mike Truhe - Phillip Atondo - Clint Wachter, Team Kyosho's Tyler Vic, Team Hotbodies Josh Alton, and Lunsford’s own Kelly Lunsford.

There were a few additions to this years Shootout.  Perhaps the biggest being the addition of Jeremy Felles.  He provided great color commentary and kept the program running smooth all weekend long.  I think the only technical problem all weekend long was a paper jam while printing the results from one of the heats.  Another addition was the Dash for Cash sponsored by the E-street moto-cross park.  The top 2 qualifiers from each class battled it out in an inverted, staggered start, 4 minute sprint race to divide up $100 between the top 2 finishers.  Jonathan Hernandez took the win, followed by Ryan Cavalieri and Mike Truhe.  Some great food was cooked up trackside by Phillip Atondo’s mother and wife Christina.  Everyone was very happy to be able to get some quality food without ever having to leave the track.

There were some great battles in the mains to cap off a great weekend of racing.  In the Sportsman Buggy A-main, Cody Hughey took the win in the 30 minute race with 2nd through 4th all finishing just 1 lap behind.

Sportsman Truggy wasn’t quite as close though, with Steve Hood wining by 2 laps but it was a close race behind him with 2nd and 3rd up for grabs through the last lap.

Electric Buggy was run at Riverfront for the first time this weekend with 14 cars entered in the event.  All 14 cars were run in the A with a 10 minute Triple-A format.  Each main was won by a different person with the win coming down to a tie breaker that saw class TQ Jason Moberly take the win by a .7 second margin.

Expert Buggy saw great battles for the entire 45 minutes with Ryan Cavalieri beating out Mike Truhe by only 8 seconds and Tyler Vik finishing 3rd over Phillip Atondo by only 15 seconds, just 2 laps behind the leaders.

Expert Truggy had a bit of a rough start and once again Ryan Cavalieri was able to jump out to an early lead and never looked back, leading all but the very first lap of the 45 minute main.  There was a ferocious battle between Mike Truhe and Tyler Vic that went on for most of the race.  The pair swapped positions many times throughout the run but in the end a few small mistakes by Tyler let Mike pull away and take the 2nd position with Tyler finishing in 3rd.
