Classic Superstars 24

Hello again and I thank you for reading yet another review from RingSkirts. This time around we are looking at the rather blasé, boring, and craptastic 24th installment of Classic Superstars. So lets start things off with something that is sure to leave a fowl taste in your moth.

Rob Van Damn LJN

The only thing good I have to say about this figure is that it at least suits the crappy theme of this set. He has an un detailed singlet and as all of these LJN’s have 0 points of articulation!!! But I think what makes it most laughable is the over painted beard on his face. Just garbage. He is MOC and up on eBay if anyone is interested. http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/ringskirts

The Killer Bees

B. Brian Blair and Jumping Jim Brunzell

Yes I am reviewing these guys as a pair because frankly they are less than that. I mean a complete and utter re-release by Jakks. Now I know that them being a re release is pretty much old news but I had an ounce of faith left in Jakks to make this set better. I recall back to when Demolition was released in singles. I thought to myself “ self. What a pile of horse crap!” But then the Jakks crew surprised me by not only repainting the faces but giving them removable cloth entrance gear! So although it was not advertised to do the same with the Bees I still was expecting some nice ring jackets with them. Nope. Head bands. Head bands! That’s freakin it!!! I mean these pale in comparison to the masks that came with the tag team set. It’s rare that the singles release is out shined by the 2 pack release. But I must say that the head bands were done right. They are thin cloth with an elastic (one size fits all) band on the back to secure it. I know nothing spectacular but when you have crap like this set the little morsels tend to shine a bit brighter. I mean at least they but a thimble full of effort. Could have been worse. WE could have had those yellow Terry Funk rubber head bands. But I really don’t see how Jakks can justify re releasing these and making them worse than the originals. I mean you could have at the very least had Brunzell in his singles gear either from WWF post Bees or AWA.

Stephanie McMahon

Yes that’s right Stephanie before she was a Helmsley. I know what your thinking another repaint. And your right. We already saw her but it was with an exclusive 2 pack so I can let this go since it had never before hit mass retail. The outfit is plain but fitting. They used the smaller chest mold which is accurate for that era as she was “pre-surgery” at that point. I like the little details like the delicate bracelets and the neck choker. As you can see with the comparison photos this is a much more innocent version of Stephanie as she is not over loaded on the make up. and I would venture to say her hair is even slightly lighter. Also you will notice that there is extra paint on the torso to make her have a more covered up and conservative look. If you are looking for great accessories then don’t buy this set as all your going to get is are microphones. And that’s what she came with. Not a damn chair or even a championship belt. I mean everyone in this set had titles in the WWF so you thin k they would throw in some belts but mostly they threw in some nothing.

Rey Mysterio

Now technically for my money this should be Rey Mysterio Jr. but I assume Oscar, or what ever the crap his real name is, didn’t sign of the rights to Jakks for the Jr.. We have all been tired of seeing Rey’s face cluttering the RA and DA lines but now he is taking over the classics too. I mean this is his 3rd figure in the classic line. One is day but the other 2 are pretty much just different colors. And if you count the best of WCW and ECW figs then that makes 5. Enough already. Move over Rey so other guys can have a spot and take your boring microphone with you. Okay but honestly it’s alright for a figure if you are a Rey fan. The skin tone is very good for Rey and they used the head scan that I think is one of his best. Just not much else to say about it.

Hunter Herst-Helmsley This is one of the best figures in this set and I think that’s saying allot. The first thing you may notice is the new tails coat jacket mold that he is supporting. I think this was first seen on a Mr. Fuji proto but it is okay on Helmsely too. It does however look a bit bulky on him. The attire is nice and is a great entrance tear figure. The unbuttoned shirt mold suits it well too. He even has a new head scan. Sure the head is gigantic but hey its at least new with a nice delicate little pony tail. The inner thigh painting is less detailed than his original CS1 release but he does have the detail on his upper boots. Sadly he was released with no accessories. I think if it were me a Blassie cane would have fit nice as for some reason I remember him carrying a walking stick. But still now that I think of it was this figure even necessary? I mean we got a removable jacket in CS1. Then again it wasn’t all that removable as it was hard as crap to take off and put back on. I mean why not make a better fitting ring jacket with him. Instead you used this as an excuse to show off your new fat guy tail coat. Way to go Jakks! One last thing that I just noticed. I never knew his name was Hearst-Helmsley. The hyphen implies to me that he had some hippy liberal mom who wasn’t willing to give up her last name to marriage which is not a very “blue blood” thing to do. I always thought Hearst was his middle name which I guess in retrospect makes very little sense. I also posted some fix ups with a simple head switch.

Trish Stratus

Alright lets keep this train wreck moving! Ohh WAIT!!! CAN. aidlakdl.a…1k@#~! OH My GAWD! It’s actually a good figure. Trish is the one figure that is surly worth your cash guys. First of its her debut in the CS line and frit time in the new RA body mold. To add to that she has a brand new never before released hat accessory and a cloth coat! The is slightly more narrow than the big new cowboy hat and is made of a harder rubber. IT is also folded up thin. I think it would also make as a good HBK hat if it were repainted. IT has the infinity symbol or rings on it (never sure what they were supposed to be). The jacket is a nice touch and looks phenomenal next to her under accessoriesed peers in this set. I do have to point out that is cloth but I remember her wearing leather for some reason. I could be wrong though. She even has the 100% belt buckle and some detail around her …um… well lets just say…money makers. I know there are probably many who dislike this head scan but I appreciate seeing her in a new scan. Especially one that attempts to resemble her debut.

The British Bulldogs

Dynamine Kid and the Davey Boy Smith

I think this marks the first time that 2 tag teams have been released in one CS series. Yes now the WWF merchandise catalog has taken over the CS line. Personally I am not a big fan of having these guys in the shirts but I know some are. Al and all the shirts look pretty good. I would just rather have them in that wrestling attire. All in all its okay but nothing I would sing the praises of. But we were all excited to finally get this youth full Davey Boy head. I am not crazy about the scan but it is better than having him with long hair. I post pictures of the simple head switch I did.
