Mattel 2-Packs

Tag Teams Basic 5

Luke Gallows

Luke came out in a Mattel Basic 2 pack with his straight edge messiah CM Punk. Not much to say about the figure. It’s a decent likeness of Luke but has a cheapness in his scan that some of their basic figures sometimes have. It’s hard for me to get too excited for basic figures after playing with the elites.

Tag Teams Basic 5

Ricky The Dragon Steamboat v.s.

Chris Jericho

Oh yeah, the figure Jakks was too afraid to make! So I broke my don’t buy basic style figures rule when I saw this baby on the peg board. I figured it was the only way I would get a short haired Steamboat. The Dragon looks great with his short hair and yellow tights. He has dragon designs on his tights and his red boots. The head scan looks like a late career version of The Dragon and reminds me of his last run in WCW. He has a long red headband which is the only draw back in my opinion as it seams as though it may be able to easily break off with casual play or bin storage. Wish this was removable. I don’t know why all headbands for the Mattel figs have been removable except for Ricky Steamboat figures. Jericho is the same old boring basic Y2J that we have seen before with different colored deco.

2 Packs Series 2

Carlito and Primo Carlon

I spit in the face of Mattel for their job on this set. Ok It’s not that bad but there is room for improvement. Mainly on the head scans. Both Carlito and Primo’s head scans are just sub par. The detail is lacking and they look like the detail that I would expect from a build and brawl scale figure. The attire is nice but the head scans sour the set for me.

The Miz and John Morison

Where to begin? He’s the Mix and his head scan is AWFULL. Okay it’s not quite that bad but leaves a bit to be desired. Un fortunately he is in his old attire but it is accurate to that faze of his career. The one thing that bothers me is the lack of accessories. He really should have had his hat. Morrison is better in the head scan department. The figure looks great right down the detailed attire. The even have his boot covers and they are a separate rubber piece. It easily rotates and does not interfere with playability. Something about this set really helps me to appreciate the Elite figures in comparison.

Finley and Horneswoggle

Two packs two seems to have the curse of the bad head scans and it struck Finley. The head scan just is once again sub par. It reminds me of a late career Ric Flair. I do love the detail that was given to his orange boots though. Hornswoggle on the other hand is fabulous. The extra articulation in the legs is great for playability. The head scan is phenomenal too. This is the one real exception to the 2 packs 2 curse. On top of that they even included his hat! Yay for accessories! I could nitpick and say he has a rubber coat that is not removable (which I think Mattel told us they would never do) but for this little guy I can live with it.

Glamorella

Santino Marella

This figure is flippin awesome! First lets start with his tattoos. I’m not an expert on guys ink but for my money it looks like they are all there: chest, arms, leg, back. Santino has his black and blue singlet with the Itialian Santino logo on the front. His head scan is great with his “little beaver” hair do, unibrow, and five o’clock shadow. He comes with black boots that have red laces and black wrist bands. He comes with the small style knee pads that allow better playability. They are red with nice white accents.

Beth Phoenix

A great first diva to kick of the new Mattel line. The likeness of Beth I great and features her wonder woman crown. This is one of the worst figures though for head posing. The long stiff hair makes it virtually immobile. I mean if you wont allow it to move, what s the purpose of even making the head able to pivot? She has smaller arms than the guys with the same articulation except the hands. The diva hand molds only pivot lacking the wrist fold articulation that the male figures have. Instead there is extra articulation under the chest at the torso like the “elite” figures and added articulation in the legs. There is a thigh pivot as well as a partial split function of the legs. She has a long pants mold with feet similar to those on the Shawn Michaels figure. She has gold and silver detail through out. The chest mold is a good size. Not ridiculously voluptuous yet not too petite either. A good match for Beth. The back features the tie to her top which is placed perfectly at the hinge point.

Priceless

Ted Debiassie

The likeness on Ted’s scan is superior to that on his RA figure. The hair however seems a bit too light and he has the same expressionless problem as Y2J. Pretty plain figure with black wrist bands boots tights and those horrid large knee pads. His tights have great detail on the sides and back RS Rated: 7.0

Cody Rohdes I’m really not a fan of his head scan. It has a zombie like lifeless expression. He comes with black tights and knee pads with gold and white designs and the CR logo on the tights. He has plain black boots and a larger elbow pad that limits playability.
