The International Dance Council – CID

26th World Congress in Dance Education

July 12-16, 2010

Riga, Latvia

The World Congress in Dance Education is one of the world’s most well known and most prestigious events in the promotion of dance culture and education. The congress gathers together dance professionals and other dance lovers from around the world and encourages the exchange of experience and fresh ideas. In 2010 the congress will take place in Riga and it will be organized by the Riga Section of the International Dance Council and by the Riga Teacher Training and Educational Management Academy.

CID is a non-governmental organization founded in 1973 within the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. CID is in official relationship with UNESCO that fulfills its advisory function within the confines of the mandate. CID unites dance professionals of all genres and styles around the world. Today more than 400 most prestigious dance federations, associations, schools and groups are members of the Dance Council.  CID unites round 3000 individuals and professionals (choreographers, teachers, dance historians, critics etc.) from 150 countries. It also features around 100 university lecturers with a doctoral degree in the field of dance.

The congress is one of the most visible programs of CID activity that takes place in various countries each year. Traditionally the event gathers around 200-300 participants who participate in the 5 days long event program. It includes readings of scientific reports, demonstrations of dance choreography and dance teaching methods, master classes and various concerts with performances of professional and internationally acknowledged dance artists – CID members.

Each dance professional and amateur is invited to take part in the congress, both as a listener and a learner, as well as a participant with an own master class or performance. The working language of the congress is English, however the scientific reports of the congress will be provided with simultaneous interpreting in English and Latvian languages.
