Professional Background
I am in my third year as assistant principal in the Saugus Union School District. Prior to serving as an administrator, I was a K-5 Elementary school teacher in Sylmar, LAUSD, for seven years. I was a Mentor Teacher, ELD Practicum Trainer, Thinking Maps Trainer of Trainers, GATE Coordinator, and Technology Coordinator.
Educational Background
Currently, I am in pursuit of a doctorate in Educational Leadership through California State University Northridge. In 2011, I will graduate as a member of CSUN's EdD inaugural class in 2011. I recieved my Tier II Administrative Services Credential from the Santa Barbara County Education Office (2008). I attended California State University, Northridge for my Administrative Credential (2006). I earned my California Teaching Credential from California State University, Los Angeles through the CalState TEACH Credential Program (2003). My Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications was from Loyola Marymount University (1997). Research Interests - I am interested in exploring successful school reform strategies among low socioeconomic (SES) schools that score significantly higher on state standardized assessments than schools with similar demographics. Of particular interest to me, are the implementation and effectiveness of the use of metacognitive strategies to scaffold learning for students in low SES schools. Likewise, I am interested in how these "outlier" schools were able to overcome barriers facing students of economically disadvantaged schools to increase student achievement while the majority of low SES schools are not.
Interests and Hobbies - I enjoy spending time with my wife, Kirsten, and son, Jackson. In addition, I enjoy working with underprivileged children locally and around the world. I have organized and led short-term mission trips to Kampala, Uganda and Ensenada, Mexico to provide schools and churches with curriculum and teaching strategies.
