Comfort  Funky county food. This place is yummy! Good for the vegetarian and the meat eater.

Edo's Squid The best bang for your buck in Richmond.  Antipasti, garlic, seafood, garlic, pasta and garlic. This place stays busy and loud, but is worth it!

Ipanema Café Rachel eats here often. This is a vegetarian and vegan friendly spot.

Places to Work Out

Richmond has two nice Gold's Gym locations: Willow Lawn and the Fan. For the swimmers in the crowd, Rob's pool NOVA is an excellent place for a dip (5 dollars to drop in).

Yoga Spots

Yoga Source is a friendly and comfortable studio in Carytown, which is centrally located and full of places to grab a bite or a cup of coffee.  The studio has a variety of classes in a variety of styles, just come 15 minutes before the class starts.

Disc Golf Lovers

Bryan Park is the nicest course in Richmond.  It is a full 18 hole course with pro and amateur tee's, good elevation changes, interesting terrain, and a wide range of hole distances (several 400'+, including one at 700').  In addition to great disc golf, a session at Bryan Park promises the opportunity to spy various birds of prey and migratory song birds.

Gillies Creek disc golf course is located just outside the historic Church Hill in Gillies Creek Park.  The course is a full 18 holes with single tee positions for most holes.  The course is generally short, winding through forested paths, with interesting elevation changes in some areas.

Getting Here n' Getting Around

How do I get to Richmond?

For most of you, flying is the way to go. Richmond International is a small but lovely airport roughly 10 miles outside of the city. All the major car rental companies are available at the airport. If you are an East Coaster there are two Amtrak stations in Richmond, one downtown and the other in western part of town. If you go Amtrak route, please know that car rentals are not available at the stations; however the Glenn Allen Cab Company can pick you at either station.

How do I get around Richmond?

There is bad and good news. The bad news is Richmond is mostly is a car city. So, for those of you flying in, you may want to rent a car. The good news is Richmond small and fairly easy to navigate. There are three major highways in Richmond: 95 North/South, 64 East/West, and 195.

However, Richmond does has a public bus system, GRTC, and depending on where you stay you can hop on the bus.

If you want to stay on team taxi (for the weekend or just for the evening), the Glenn Allen Cab Co has rate estimates.

Where do I stay?

We did not reserve a block of rooms at one hotel. Instead, we wanted to give you information - you pick the hotel that best suites you. Below are places we have had experience with....

Don't care for those places, but want a rule of thumb or two?

      • Comfort Inn Midtown is a dump.
      •  Avoid the Southside of the city  (in the earliest stage of urban renewal). Southside means the part of town south of the river.
