Kiwi Connection - Ruma 3 - Year 3 & 4

February 2009, Volume 1, Issue 1

Term  1 Greetings

Kia Ora Families!

Well here we are at the beginning of another exciting year.  We have 30 children in our class, 18 girls and 12 boys. That is not too bad considering Ruma 3 is the largest sized classroom in the whole school. Each year I am grateful for the wonderful children that Ms Nina passes on to me from Ruma 2, and each year I think they couldn’t get any better, but they do!

It has been really nice to welcome back younger siblings who used to come and wait for their big brothers and sisters when they were in Ruma 3. So far it has been like one big reunion!

Thank you Parents and Caregivers for making yourselves known to me and for all your encouragement and support. We look forward to a wonderful, fun-filled year, in which we will continue to foster an enthusiasm for life and a love of learning.

Upcoming Events

Our main focus for this term is “Our People”, in which we will be looking at ourselves and the cultures to which we belong. We will endeavour to explore how cultural practices reflect and express our customs, traditions and values.

Already we have had two great opportunities to see culture in action through our Powhiri. Our new staff in Te Whanau Whariki are making a real effort to explain to our tamariki how and why we do things the way we do. This will stand us in good stead for other events and celebrations that are coming up later this year, e.g. our 125th Celebrations in August.

But, for now, we are so looking forward to our Grandparents’ Day next Friday, 20th February. Please make sure you come and join us (11.30 – 12.30). We want to hear your stories about school and growing up in other parts of Auckland, New Zealand, or even the World!

See you there. Ciao for now,

Salu
