  • June 2008 - WHERE is the SUN? By June 12th, we finally have had our first warm day, to 68 degrees. Up to that point it has been 52 degrees, cold, rainy and overcast. These appear to be the climate changes La Nina has in store for us. On June 11, Ritchie and Louie headed out again out on Leif Erikson Trail, this time doing 5.5 miles before heading home. Cold and damp, but still lots of fun being outside. Louie's a healthy 70 lbs now, and loves trail-running.
  • March 2008 - We visited Phoenix and saw Mum, Dad, brother Tim & his wife, Debbi. Went to  an artist / architect's studio and a train park. Swam in the hotel pool, drove around in a PT Cruiser. We won't rent one of these again, although it was fun driving around in a convertible! The day after we got back, we saw BARACK OBAMA at the Memorial Colliseum in Portland! WOW!
  • Sept 2007 - Kari & Ritchie visit Oahu (a direct flight from Portland) and stay private in Kailua. We snorkelled,  swam & surfed on North Shore, about a mile from the Banzai Pipeline and played on the beaches. Point-de-Point, Haleiwa, Lost Beach.
  • August 2007 - We rented a beach-house at Lincoln City. Kari, Ritchie, Jak,  Zeb, Cole, Raine and Reid all hung out for a week together and survived to tell the tale. Body-surfing, tide-pooling, skim-boarding, hot-tubbing, campfires on the beach, waffles, lots and lots of waffles. Lincoln City Skate Park. No cable or internet at the beach house, a media blackout for all !!
  • Dec 2006 - Kari's birthday! We had a GREAT party for Kari.
  • November 2006 - Louie went on his longest hike yet. We travelled over 7 miles along the Leif Erikson Trail in Forest Park. Kari used her Apple iPod with new Nike+ tracking, and we burned 1046 calories each.
  • October 2006 - Louie is now a BIG part of our family.
  • September 2006 - WOW! A big family change. We got a dog - Louie - a wolfhound-terrier-mix on Sept 7, 2006. He was 41.5 lbs when we picked him up from the Oregon Humane Society, with shots, a vet visit and he was chipped with Kari's information.. What a fantastic dog. After living with Louie only one week, Ritchie travelled to Bangalore, India for the last two weeks of the month. Kari was very glad to have Louie around while Ritchie was away.
  • August 2006 - Richard & Kari's anniversary trip this year focused on Lewis & Clark. This summer, Kari and I followed the return trail of the party east from Portland, Oregon through the Columbia River Gorge to Kennewick, Washington  up into Idaho and up through the Clearwater National Forest, back over the Lolo pass through the Bitterroots into Montana, where we spent time in Mission Valley: Arlee, St Ignatius, Ronan and Polson.  We stayed at Polson, Montana for two days - at the southern shore of Flathead Lake. We then found Kari's friends Ray & Beanie - we had been looking for them for 2-days. They had moved!
  • July 2006 - Summer sees us doing some basic house maintenance. We pulled apart the back garden - quite a project, as we discovered a retaining wall needs rebuilding. Kari has been scraping the house, and Richard has started painting.
  • June 2006 - Our family summer trip this year was a trip 'back East' to see my parents in Florida - and it started with our red-eye flight into NYC-JFK. We stayed at the Brightman on 61st - and our room had a great view of the 59th Street Bridge (feelin' groovy). We then travelled south to Florida via Washington DC, Atlanta and down to Jacksonville.
