MOST POPULAR BOOK-TO-MOVIE PRODUCTION OF THE YEAR:
The Hunger Games!!  Katniss Everdeen volunteers to replace her little sister in the brutal, deadly, annual Hunger Games. Can she survive without killing? Will her hunting skills be enough? Who can she trust? The book is an edge-of-your-seat read you can't put down! Read it before seeing the movie--and after the movie--and then read it again! It's that kind of book.  You'll want to read the whole trilogy: Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. That's what Ms. Gilmer is doing--again!

Hunger Games opened in theaters March 23, 2012.  Watch the trailer here.

Fairy tales are taking over the theaters! First it was Disney's Beauty & the Beast re-released in 3D, then not one but TWO different re-tellings of the Snow White story in Mirror, Mirror  (a comedy) and Snow White & the Huntsman (definitely a grown-up version of the tale)--and these are no wimpy princesses! But maybe it's not so surprising when you look at all the books that have been written for adults using fairy tale themes and characters. You can find both the original old tales and many novels inspired by them for older readers like you in the library--just come ask to see them. You may be surprised how sophisticated and thought-provoking they are!

RECENTLY IN THEATERS & STILL IN THE LIBRARY
"Quoth the raven, 'Nevermore!' " Yes, it's a movie about Edgar Allen Poe's final days. It's not a true story, but it is intriguing, anyway: Poe tries to find a serial killer who commits murders by the same methods used in some of his own scariest stories! Ms. Gilmer really enjoyed this one. Before you see the movieThe Raven, read Poe's famous poemThe Raven (it's creepy!) so you'll know how the big black bird fits into the story.
Opened in theaters April 27. See the preview here.

Titanic--just the name creates images of disaster. And now the movie is coming back in 3-D with all the romance, adventure, and heartbreak of the first time. Read all about the actual Titanic ship and how it sank in three new books in the library!
Opened in theaters April 6. See official website and preview here.

Bella and Edward get married!  And pregnant!  But the baby is killing Bella from within.  What to do?  And what kind of baby is this?  Everybody gets involved--the Cullens, of course; Jacob and the wolves; the Volturi.  The baby is a threat to all of them in different ways.  The movie will no doubt be great, but it can't include everything the book does.  In fact, it will take two movies to tell the story.  So read the book Breaking Dawn AND see the movie Breaking Dawn Part 1 ! [Caution: squeamish readers and viewers may not like parts of the story.]
Breaking Dawn Part 1 opened in theaters November 18, 2011.  Watch the trailer here.
Breaking Dawn Part 2 opens November 16, 2012.  See a short preview and more info here.

The book, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, is a cross between a regular novel and a graphic novel.  It's FULL of suspense and mystery.  Hugo, a 12-year-old orphan,  secretly lives in the walls of a huge train station, taking care of the train station's giant clock and trying to repair a strange mechanical man that his father once found.  But there are many questions and dangers surrounding the robot.  Can Hugo solve them?  Will he get caught?  Will he find friends and allies that can help?  Read the book and visit its website (click here).  The movie Hugo comes out soon!

Opened in theaters November 23.  Watch the trailer and get more info here.

A royal murder, a fortune-teller, a trans-continental search, and high adventure every minute--this is Sherlock Holmes as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle never imagined him.  The movies are tons of fun, and this time Holmes is after his evil arch-enemy Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.  For a brainier Holmes, try Doyle's original stories and books.  They'll get the gears turning in your head.  And for a teenage Holmes, or for stories about his younger sister, come see what some of the newer books the library has!

Opened in theaters December 16.  Watch the trailer and get more info here.
