Grade 3- Informal evaluation begins in first semester with classroom observation and Primary Thinking Skills. The SAGES-2 test is administered in the second week of school. Students with a scale score of 120 or hi gher in the subject areas of math, language arts, or reasoning will move on to the second round of testing. A student questionnaire will be passed out to the classroom teachers of the students that move into the second round of testing. The second round of testing consists of two parts: verbal and figural creativity tests. The scores from the creativity tests, SAGES-2, and teacher questionnaire will then be given a score of 1-4 and put into a matrix. Students who have a matrix score of twenty or higher will be qualified to enter the gifted program. See attached matrix.
Grade 4-There is no testing in this grade. Students who were in the program the previous year will move into the program for fourth grade.
Grade 5- The entire grade will be retested in the same manner as in the third grade. See attached matrix. The scores from the third grade have no bearing on placement in the fifth grade. Middle school placement will be done by a separate set of testing at the end of fifth grade. A new matrix for this is coming.
Any students who missed a testing day will be coming to a make-up test day. |
