We Believe Gifted Students Need:
* to be identified by the third grade.
* continual opportunity to interact with their peers.
* a safe nurturing environment, which encourages creativity, risk taking, and flexible thinking.
* opportunites for problem solving, higher order thinking skills, challenging activities and authentic learning experiences.
* support and guidance as they recognize, accept, enhance, and apply their gifts and talents.
My belief in education is to facilitate learning while modeling for my student’s good choices. My thoughts follow with William Glasser’s on how students make their own choices. I cannot make the choice for my student, good or bad. I am here as an educator to give my students all the materials I can so that they do make the good choice in life, school, and the future.
The primary purpose of education is to promote democratic, social living for my students. I work for my students to be come responsible participants in society. I give my students all of the tools to become active contributors that are agents of change. In all of my classes that I teach, we work on real life applications units. My students have every chance in the world to see how to make life better not just for themselves, but for the world as a whole. Understanding the diversity of my students is my number one priority. As I am the enrichment teacher I need to know what each of my students is able to handle. I look to new research and information on how to be able to reach students with all types of learning. I follow Bloom’s Taxonomy when creating a lesson. I use the taxonomy to move through a subject to get the students thinking on a higher level. I use practical application to ensure that my students take this way of thinking with them for the rest of their lives.
