Randy Garcia EDUC 6080 Health Disaster Plan Reflection
At Animo Inglewood Charter High School we have a very detailed and extensive disaster plan. The entire staff is made aware of their responsibilities and is expected to study the emergency codes. Students are also expected to know their role in the procedure. About once every two months all students, staff and administration practice their roles during the various drills. We practice fire, earthquake, intruder, and extreme disaster drills. Though the drills require different types of protection and evacuation, the teacher procedures are very similar. As teachers we rely on our roster sheets and our disaster folders. If evacuation is necessary like for fire drills my responsibility is to keep track of who was present that day in order to keep an accurate count in case we have any missing students. During intruder or earthquake drills our job is to make sure anyone within our classroom is as safe as possible. This means physically protected and covered during an earthquake or making sure that students are safe during a “lockdown”. As teachers our biggest responsibility becomes knowing the various codes letting us know what the exact situation is, whether things are safe from an intruder or clear to return from a fire. I feel my role is consistent with the realistic abilities that would arise during a disaster. I feel they are clear and I believe they are well practiced. |
