• VID: Be somebody by tearful_eye (NCIS).
  This vid's so well put together that I don't care that my personal view of Tony DiNozzo doesn't quite match the plaintive air of the song (by The Eels). The cutting is wonderful, with its focus on gesture and facial expression, and the chop of the visuals is hugely effective: the vidder keeps returning to the same frames, giving us the second looks and re-examinations that speak to the character as I see him. She treats all of the characters with brief, sharp, cuts that jolt the viewer with how beautiful they are; Ziva in particular is staggering here, and McGee gets to be as pretty as he actually is. There's an emphasis on closing doors, blank walls, empty rooms that also really works for me as character commentary. It's lovely work all round.  (Link goes to the vidder's website.) • VID: Five on the Dime by shati (BtVS).
  I love ruthless readings and this vid's not much for mercy. From the whole sprawling canon story of Buffy, the vidder picks out the running themes of love and betrayal and what must be paid for each, and marries up the result to the Noe Venables song with mesmerizing results. "Buffy and blood sacrifice," summarizes the vidder; it's a seamless blend of music, lyrics, and visuals right up to the perfect, devastating final frame. (Link goes to the vidder's website.) • VID: Cobrastyle by talitha78 (Smallville).
  A triple-strength jolt of pretty with a truly righteous backbeat; the song choice (by the Teddybears) is a total winner and her cutting and beat-matching to the internals of the clips (all of them really sharp) makes this one special. Six seasons of Lex, and like the man said: Wow. • FIC: Every Art and Artifice by thestylus (SG-1).
  A pre-series story about Janet Frasier and why, perhaps, SGC recruited her. I've not watched much SG-1 but this story makes me want to, just to get to know the character in time present. Utterly convincing. (rec posted 7/19/2007)

• FIC: Ten Things You May Not Know About Miranda Zero by st_aurafina (Global Frequency).
  My squee cannot be textually rendered. Don't skip this just because you don't know the source text. Really. It's short, hilarious, and perfect. (rec posted 6/23/2007)

• FIC: The Wide Expanses by sageness (Battlestar Galactica).
  Makes beautiful sense of Leoben's manipulative, intimate, possessive relationship with Kara. Short, haunting. (rec posted 6/23/2007)

• FIC: Man, Interrupted by samdonne (Thoughtcrimes).
  Never seen the source text, couldn't care less. This is a long, lyrical, elegantly structured story and the plot is just plain cool. You'll love it. (rec posted 6/23/2007)
