Defining Goals Project

Career Interview Project

posted Sep 2, 2009 4:29 AM by Reynald Cacho   [ updated Apr 15, 2010 3:37 PM ]

Hi class,

To put your special project to a different level, let us further improve the packaging to give you more time to do, to review, to polish, and to blog your work.

After sharing your short and long term goals with your pair, I would like you to look for individual  who has shared and accomplished some related goals in their field of work whether in public or in private sector.

Make an appointment with him or her by sending letter of request for an interview in advance. You can download the attached interview letter in this post or ask for a hard copy from me (Click this link to view and print the letter). Be guided by this video clip (from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvuZY3DWtIY&feature=related) ; relate it to our traditional practice. Remember you will be the interviewer. Know your roles and be cautious with your body language. Always be polite and don't forget to thank the person you interviewed.

As usual, the same guide questions follow but you can still add side questions that you think will answer the queries in your mind. These include (1)::

·        What is your job?

·        What do you do in your job?

·        What do you like and dislike in your job?

·        What are the skills and trainings needed in your job?

·        What are the things that students should do to prepare themselves for this kind of job?

·        Other questions (optional)

Document your paper by writing (handwritten) it in short bond paper. Include the transcript of it and summarize them in this format:

Name of the person:______________________________

Career/job/profession/occupation:___________________

Age:___________________________________________

Length in service/at work (in years):_________________

Activities

Likes

Dislikes

Training and Skills needed

Things to do to prepare

Others

(Answers to other question)

·

·

·

·

·

·

Attach a photo of the interview in your written report as proof of this undertaking or you can record the exact exchange through
voice recorder or video cam. Outputs in the right format (mp3 for sound) or video (uploaded to you tube) may be embedded in your blog.

After activity work:

Individually make a brief two-paragraph composition or essay about the activity that you did by answering these key questions:

  •   What insights have I learned about the person or work of the person I interviewed?
  •   Do I plan of venturing on the same career in the future?
  •   Have my understanding of goals and works in the real world changed?
  •   How do I see myself 10 years from now?

Submission of the hard copy or written output (individual after activity work included) is on or before September 11, 2009.

For blogging (Optional but highly recommended) of your work, you can explore and use one from these blogging sites:

Make sure that your blog is in public view. Giving of URL or website address (example, http://sites.google.com/site/reynaldsworld/) is due on or before September 25, 2009.

Rubrics for rating your work:

Interview documentation in written output (by pair)                          :     40 points

Individual after activity work (by essay)                                             :     30 points

Blog posting, correct use of language and media (by pair)               :     30 points

                                                                                     Total                   100 points

NOTE: Individual overall points may vary depending on the individual essay activity points. Pair may have the same rating in the documentation/reporting of interview and blog posting. Content and fluency are more appreciated over accuracy. Point deduction is applied for late submission.

Should you have other question, contact me through rmcacho@gmail.com

Good Luck!
