ReServe:READY  recruits, trains and deploys qualified individuals to help students and families in underserved secondary schools  apply for college admission and financial aid.  Under the direction of school staff, READY ReServists are working to increase college acceptances and attendance among New York City high school students, especially first generation college goers and those from immigrant families.

Target Areas

READY ReServists bring a wealth of hard skills and social capital to their work, which can vary from school to school, depending upon student needs and the time of year. In addition READY Reservists receive specialized training in three core functions:

• College essay (personal statement) writing
• College applications (particularly CUNY/SUNY)
• Financial Aid (both application for and interpretation of)

READY ReServists...

• Are usually over 55 years old
• Have a desire to engage and connect with high school students
• Are able to adapt and be flexible in working with a range of ages and changing daily schedules
• Are capable of doing complex internet searches
• Have a college degree
