Founded in 2005, ReServe® is a New York
City based not-for-profit that works to enhance the lives of older adults and
strengthen their communities. We identify qualified individuals who, having
finished their primary careers, want to be engaged in part-time work that
offers personal satisfaction, big social impact and a modest stipend. We help
non-profits and public agencies identify staffing that can be filled by
ReServists. Then we make the match. ReServists’ assignments are as varied as
their backgrounds. For more information on ReServe, please visit: http://reserveinc.org/
ReServe's READY program trains ReServists in college counseling to support small, public high school staff and assists more under-served students with getting into college. This year READY was piloted the program at 18 NYC public schools and, through an AmeriCorps grant, will train and place ReServists at approximately 60 schools for the 2010-2011 school year. ReServists will support school staff and college counselors to help students research and select colleges, write college essays, submit college applications (particularly at CUNY/SUNY), and complete financial aid applications.
READY Americorps ReServists may have varied work schedules, but most will work 15 hours a week. ReServists earn a stipend of $10/hr. In addition to this stipend, Americorps ReServists can earn a $1400 education award at the end of their year-long service. This can be used by the ReServists, their children or grandchildren to take college classes or pay back college loans.
