Tech Tip #18- Sharpening Your Searching Skills!
One of the more frequent questions and discussions that I engage in with teachers is how to teach students to become better at searching. Lets face it, searching is a skill that is developed. This week I came across a new to me site published by Google that posts a question a day in which the answer can be found by searching. A Google A Day !Google has not only generated a searchable question, but when you click on the "show answer" option, it actually guides you through the steps to successfully reach the correct answer. A great way to explain searching to your students and actually get to practice some of those searching strategies. The "Advanced search" option is ...

Tech Tip #17: Enhanced YouTube Embedding!
I just recently came across this wonderful new tool that allows you to strip all comments and suggested videos that sometimes can appear in the embedded YouTube videos. This tool also adds some really neat and intriguing options to your embedded video as well. You now have VCR like controls, a link to social media related to the video, and the ability to add markers and annotations.
The Tool:
Here's how:
Simply copy the URL of the YouTube video that you want to dress up.
Navigate to: http://embedplus.com/

Next, let embedplus know if you are planning to embed this video into a WordPress site:
Next, copy your YouTube URL into the ...

Tech Tip #16:Learn Anything, Anytime, Anywhere- Using iTunes U to Access Information
Most of us use iTunes simply to manage and organize our
media files, such as music, video, and maybe even a podcast or two. However,
many Universities and schools have created an iTunes U page where they are
providing their students, and in many cases, the public with free educational
content.
To access iTunes U, simply launch iTunes on your iDevice or on your computer. Navigate
to the iTunes store, and click on the iTunesU menu.
Now that we have iTunesU open, we can search for content.
Let’s just say we are doing a unit on the periodic table of elements in a
Science class. Let’s open the “Power Search” feature in iTunes.
Let’s set the parameters ...

Tech Tip #15: Smart Playlists with iTunes
By now, most of us probably have iTunes installed on our
computers to run an iPod, iPad, or even the iPhone. iTunes is a powerful tool
for organizing our media content, from our music collections to our videos, and
even more.
If you do not have iTunes installed on your computer, you
can download and install the software free from here: DOWNLOAD
Most users simply use iTunes to organize their media. Did
you know that iTunes will create a playlist by user designated criteria? Here’s
how.
1.
Open iTunes
2.
Select “Music” from your library list.
3.
From the File dropdown menu, select “New
SmartPlaylist”
4.
In the rule box, you can create rules in which
iTunes will follow ...
