north@thestar.com.my THE Tzu Chi Collegiate Youth Association in Penang made sure their message was easily understood at their recent Musical & Sign Language Concert entitled ‘Twenty Challenges to Enlightenment'. The 108 Ci Qing members, who based their show on founder Master Cheng Yen's commentary on Buddhist teachings, performed simple songs and used sign language as they sang. The students also staged short acts to depict each scenario, signalling a message based on kindness, compassion, joy and sense of giving. They performed to a packed audience of over 1,000 people which included 16 Reverend Masters from several Penang Buddhist temples and associations. Penang was the association's first performance. The group will be travelling all over the country to perform throughout this month. The final performance will be held in Bukit Mertajam on June 27. Tickets are sold on a donation basis and all funds raised will be used to promote the Youth Association's drive to fight global warming by urging more people to become vegetarians.
Inspiring show: The big TV screen makes it easy for the audience to see the hand signs used by the Ci Qing memebers from the Tzu Chi Collegiate Youth Association Concert with a difference: Performers using sign language during their concert |
