Chris Raines Memorial Weekend

Welcome!

Welcome to our site!

We’d like to use this site to share with others our enjoyment of a uniquely Australian event, held at the remote Renner Springs Roadhouse in the Northern Territory of Australia.

What’s it all about?

This biennial event was initially held over the Easter break in 2008 and started out as the “Tri-Branch Challenge”.

It was created as an opportunity for fellow Ulysses members from the Top End (Darwin, NT), Central Deserts (Alice Springs, NT) and Mt Isa (Queensland) branches to get together every two years at a relatively central point for some fun and relaxation.

“The Man With The Clipboard” - Chris Raines from the Mt Isa Branch - seized the reins (and a clipboard) and was the driving force behind the success of the inaugural event.

A really excellent weekend was had by all and the next event, originally scheduled for Easter 2010, was keenly anticipated by everyone that attended.

Tragically, in late 2008, Chris died suddenly, leaving a young family and many grieving friends.  The three branches decided to dedicate the event to Chris and rename it “The Chris Raines Memorial Weekend” in memory of this very special fellow Ulyssean.  It was also decided to hold the event again over Easter 2009 instead of waiting until 2010.

This site is a celebration of Chris and the weekend that honours his memory.
