This website provides information on the activities of Young Enterprise Scotland in S5 and S6 of schools in Inverclyde, Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire. It supplements and develops on the general background on the Young Enterprise programme for this age contained in www.young-enterprise.org.uk.

Our Area Board, consisting of volunteers from both education and business, exists to support 5th and 6th year students in our area by giving them the opportunity to develop skills which will be relevant in their working life.  We do this through the Company Programme, in which, between August and April, students set up and run their own company.  In this work, the students in each school are guided by a Business Adviser and a Link Teacher, both of whom are supported by training and material from our Board and Young Enterprise Scotland.

We are delighted that the Scottish Qualifications Authority has recognised the Young Enterprise Company Programme as evidence for their Enterprise and Employability Award D36N11 Intermediate Level 2.

Throughout the year we run a number of events for our students:

Launch Event in September.  This year it was held at the IBM campus, Greenock, on 11 September.

Christmas Trade Fair, held at Braehead, Renfrew, on 4 December.

Area Finals Event in March, to be held at the University of the West of Scotland in Paisley.

You can get some idea of the impact of participating in these events, and in the year's programme, from these extracts from a letter from Claire, a recent participant, now at University heading for a career in business...

'These past 9/10 months have been challenging beyond what I could ever have expected...I've had the time of my life, and will really miss it.'

'My role in the team has taught me an awful lot; understanding how vital good organisation is key to any business and anything you plan to do in your life...I've also learned how much communication is a vital part of life.'

'I would truly recommend the experience to anyone - whether interested in business or not - it is a worthwhile experience to have.'

Whether you are a current student, Business Adviser or Link Teacher, or just interested in helping our students realise their potential, I wish you every success and look forward to meeting you at one of our events.

John Lewis, Renfrewshire Area Board Chair
